Our Chapter requires 8 credits hours if you are going part-time.

We have a policy in which a member can apply for associate member status. It's usually only upperclassmen and they must have a very good reason for applying--studying abroad, internship, etc... And then it must be voted on by the advisory board before the member is allowed that status and then approved by our PDC. The member still has to pay her per capita and dues, plus room and board if she is living in the chapter house, but is somewhat excused from mandatory chapter functions (chapter, etc...)

Associate membership is also granted to those college women who have been initated and not yet graduated and transferred to another college at which:
1. There is no chapter there
or
2. She decides not to affilliate with the chapter there. Upon graduation, the member is given alumnae status.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

If it's your last semester and you only have like 6 credits, I would hope HQ wouldn't have a problem with you going alum for that last semester. It would be horrible to make someone deactivate for that reason.

I've never heard of starting w/ a full load, dropping to part-time and getting notified you can't be active anymore. The only thing I can think of is that you perhaps can't vote or hold office.

Truthfully, I think if you are willing to pay the dues, some groups will overlook the part-time thing...we had a sister who was part-time for most of her career and she was definitely active.

I'm sure when it is a sisters last semester and she only needs 6-9 credit hours worth of classes, the chapter might work with the sister. I say this because when I joined back in 98, I didn't know most of the seniors. They were only required to attend chapter (at least from my perspective). I'm sure it was because it was their last semester. I rarely saw them at the house, I rarely saw them doing things that I was required to do or that other actives who weren't seniors were required to do.
I remember my last semester and I had actually affiliated I probably would have insisted on limiting my activities that last semester because school was my priority. I was so stressed with impending graduation, classes. I would have lost my mind if I had to do more than the bare minimum of a sorority.
I'm sure it varies chapter to chapter.
