I once had this guy start up a convo with me and his opening line was about a memory about what you can do with soy sauce. Well alrightey then! Sometimes at work during the tax season, some of our clients will call me things like darling, honey, sugar, etc. Every so often someone will just start griping their life story or their current problem.

Growing up in a small town where everyone knows you...that means there is nothing hidden. Personally I don't think I could ever live in an entire town where everyone knows everything about me. Sort of me reminds me about One Tree Hill.

i take public transportation alot so you will get people who are gonna chit chat with u. The elderly, the mentally disabled, the wierdos, and normal people. I don't have a problem with it.
For example last week, this old guy sits by me, he;s starts talking about the weather, thanksgiving, etc then when we pass by this one church he says in 1971 i see this ball of bright white light transform into a very tall man with a beard and float down the street. I'm like oh that's interesting.

I'm really annoyed when the Fed Ex guy talks to me when he delivers stuff to my work. He always comes around to my side of the desk and leans over me, and then talks to me about weird stuff, like how he's sick (with explicit details) or grabs the newspaper out of my hands (literally) to look for his classified ad.

I hate it. It makes me never want to use Fed Ex services.

I must be strange - I end up to talking to most people! But then again, I am in geriatrics...

You're not strange. I think this subject has a lot to do with normal personality differences-introversion vs. extraversion and/or being shy vs. outgoing.

for some reason I always get random people talking to me...strangers especially seem to confide in me about stuff that I really don't care about! I guess maybe I seem friendly or someone that wants to listen? oh well!

Haha that may not be far from the truth. When I visited Louisiana and Mississippi weekend before last, I notice how many people said hi to me! People who I didn't even know. Where I'm from, you'll be lucky if someone greets you even if you do know them. I felt welcomed down there.
I was thinking the same thing...In SC, this happens all the time and in some circles, you are viewed as mean or inconsiderate if you do not speak to those you know and even the people you don't for example...Whenever you go to the doctor's office, everyone in there greets when someone comes in..That's just southern hospitality.

I allllways end up talking to random people. I work the wrap desk a lot at work because I'm so good at making idle chit-chat with people, and I think the habit is just rubbing off. The exceptions are some of the people on the bus - no thank you, sir! I think I'm going to start bringing my headphones with me for the long rides.

I don't know how it'll be in DC next summer since it's a much less friendly city. :[

You're not anti-social. I'm from the South too, and am used to random people yakking at me. Usually I don't mind talking with them. But sometimes I'm just not in the mood, you know? Like, today I'm at the grocery store, and I have to pee like crazy and have PMS cramps to boot. I'm grabbing a squash and some old lady starts telling me how awful the zucchini look today and they usually look so nice blah blah. I wasn't really in the mood to discuss the zucchini today, so I just mumbled something and walked off. Granted, it was my fault for going to the grocery store during " old lady shopping hour" ( aka the middle of the day), but whatever.
