We don't have Trader Joes here in Charlotte, but we do have Earth Fare and The Fresh Market. I've tried to get Mr. AXiD670 to start shopping organic, but he won't quite get into it. We went to Earth Fare about two weeks ago, and he was appalled at the prices. He refuses to pay a certain amount for particular food items, so I guess I'll have to slowly break him in to the concept.

I also just heard yesterday that with frozen, they flash freeze em to preserve the freshness RIGHT after picking, so they're usually still raw, depending on what it is.

Also, I remember watching this documentary on organic farming, and how they said its more expensive because they have to do things more by hand, which is more manpower, and because to get certified organic costs a lot in fees and licenses and what not.

My conspiracy theory is that "unhealthy" food (fast food included) is cheaper because of how Americans have this need for speed nowadays, and they want things they can cook fast. So these companies give them that. But why not do fast AND healthy? Cuz it costs too much and who cares, people will buy it anyway. That's why we're all overweight now. The crap they sell is full of just that, crap.

I'd love to eat right, and I will when I start working this fall, but its not cost efficient when you're on a po' man's budget. Sad, but true.

Oh, and I love Trader Joe's. I'm gonna have to make that my spot when I move.

Fa sho!!!!

You know, I meant to mention this before but forgot. (Unrelated to BB4's post) I have been in love with Tiger's Milk bars since I was a very young child. So many people look at me like I done lost my mind when I ask if a store has them.

The grocery store up the street has regular TM bars for $.99 a pop. BUT, God bless Trader Joes!!! They have KING size versions for only $.79 a piece??

How bout them apples?

ETA: Tiger's Milk bars are the only sugary anything that I eat. The ONLY thing. So, I have to be careful not to OD or I have a sugar reaction. So, anyone who wants to try them - remember they have corn syrup and other nasty stuff in them.

Just an FYI, most milk is rBST free even if it isn't marked on the package, only a small percentage of farmers use the milk production enhancing hormone because it's really not that effective or cost-effective.
