Bob Newhart did an awesome job showing what a person with macular sees. The way he was looking at people, sort of sideways is EXACTLY how my grandma does it (cuz with macular, the nerve that degenerates is in the center of your vision, so your peripheral vision is OK). It was so weird how he got down those little things like that, I was really impressed.

I have a few clients with it (I'm a geriatric counselor), and my best friend's mom had it. One of my clients has a pair of window pane glasses with a sticker right in the middle, so you see just the opposite of tunnel vision. I thought that was very clever of her to have those, to better explain what she's seeing.
What's really scary is that the tendency for developing it is inherited. I took a relative of mine with it to the eye clinic at Johns Hopkins (which is absolutely fantastic, I can't say enough nice things about it!!), and she was in the test that ended up with the development of Preservision. I plan to start taking it when I hit about 50 - unless there's a cure by then.
