Total: 35 for the NPC and no one else has a total (yet the NPCs are both only 1 away from total and all the other sororities on campus have an average number of 10 members)

Name of the School: Valparaiso University (NW Indiana)
Approximate Student Population: 3500 undergraduates
Number of GLO's: 7 NPC, 10 IFC, and other service/music/academics organizations that also use Greek Letters
Total: 53 for NPC, I don't believe there is a total for any of the IFC organizations or the other orgs, either

** I've heard about 1/3 of the campus is Greek (that could be off, however....paging ValpoKD! :) )

Name of Current School: Eastern Kentucky University
Approx. Student Population: 19000

npc total: i want to say that we're not really using that system anymore. I know most of our chapters her are a little over 200 people. We've had a resurgence in numbers the last 5 or so years due to increasing #s of girls going though recruitment. I think only about 20% of the school is greek though.

The pro of total is that a new group or a small group has a fighting chance with the older, more established groups. For example, my chapter is only 4 years old and we are the second in size after fall COB. If we didn't have total, then all the ladies would go one way for the most part (due to age, because all the groups have good reputations) and the rest of us would be struggling in size.

The whole idea is that all the groups should be about the same size and not have to struggle for numbers. So as you can see I am a pro total person. Could someone tell me the cons?

I am trying to encourage one of the chapters that I am currently advising to either become contact the NPC to set up a council at their college or to set up a total/ quota system through their local Greek Council and you reply has come the closest to their situation.

Mercer University
Students: approx 3000 undergrad
4 NPC, 8 IFC, and 5 NPHC (AKA comes back to campus in spring I thnk)
NPC total is currently at 75, with all chapters at or above total.
I don't know total for IFC, but their sizes (with new members) range from about 25-about 60 (I think)
Quota for NPC:
Fall 01-36
Fall 02- 27
Fall 03-26
I don't know the percentage of greeks on campus, but it is decent. There is a lot of support for Greek Life.

Lawrence University
1300 students
3 NPC (KKG, KAQ, DG), 5 NIC (SFE, FKT, BQP, FDQ, DTD), plus SAI & FMA
NPC Quota: 10
NPC Total: 50

Currently nobody's at total, nor has anyone been for about seven years. The biggest NPC is at 40 and the smallest is at 16.

Undergrad at Iowa State:

NPC chapters: 13 + 1 other (Phi Beta Chi); NIC chapters: 27; NPHC chapters: 7
Total student population: 23,000
NPC total: 92 (has been for years)
NIC total: none set--chapters range from 90+ to 20
Quota (2003): 20

There are probably 8-9 chapters that are at total or are very close, 3-2 that are under by 10-12 and 1-2 that are under 65 members. We've recently lost one sorority and are on the verge of losing another fraternity. Recruitment numbers have steadily been declining since I graduated, which has quite a few people worried. The increase in off-campus and apartment living combined with budget cuts and changing administration attitudes is seriously affecting the Greek Community.

Name of the School:The University of Mississippi, OLE MISS
Approx. Student population: 12, 000, undergrad, grad, law school, MBA, etc
Number of GLO’s: NPC-9
Total: 150 but I think we are raising it since all of the houses have between 190-220 members. Quota this year was 86. Check out other threads if you are wondering why we don't ask a new sorority on campus....

Total: 50 or 55 I think

These numbers have recently changed though; the school now has over 7,000 students and one less sorority and 5 less fraternities. The sorority that left did so because they were constantly under total....they would linger around 20 sisters (or even less). The frats that left did because they got kicked out by their nationals or campus administration - it didn't have anything to do with numbers.

The chapter I'm advising:

Total: I think 30, but I'm not sure if they have a total system in place

Name of the school: Roanoke College
Approx. student population: 1900
Number of GLO's: 4 NPC (Alpha Sigma Alpha, Chi Omega, Delta
Gamma, and Phi Mu), 3 IFC (Kappa Alpha,
Pi Kappa Alpha, and Sigma Chi).
Total: 75 for NPC. Quota for formal rush is usually 12-15. The
campus is 24% greek.

Since i see this as way too much of a problem on Northern Arizona University campus I thought I would post on this thread... The numbers stated here before are mostly right... except for one key thing was left out NPC total is 90... currently only 2 sororities are there... the other sororities range around 40 to 50 or less... This has been a problem for a long time, unfortunately the numbers do not seem to ever change. In turn the smaller groups continue to be hurt more and more. The head of greek life though has "justified" the total to everyone multiple times over. I think this turned more into me whinning then anything else so I will stop now...
