THis is really close to how I eat, except now that I am not trying to lose any more weight I will keep the skin on my chicken thanks! I don't eat dark meat so I don't think it's that bad. I try to get in at least two servings of fish/week- lots of steamed or broiled catfish and salmon. I also supplement a lot with protein shakes- usually two every day at 20g of protein and 100 calories per serving. I avoid juice and milk- mostly water and the occasional Fresca but that's about it. LOTS of whole wheat bread and vegetables.
Of late I have allowed myself bacon as an occasional treat. When I have it I just try to adjust my meals for the rest of the day to account for it. I will have a smaller lunch or sauteed veggies for dinner to make up for it. I posted my workout on another thread, but I get to the gym three times a week minimum- two days of weights and a serious dance class (although I am going to up it to two now- one bellydance and one African). I have started eating clean. No processed foods; it is suggested that you do 98% of your grocery shopping on the outskirts of the store (where all of the meats/veggies/fruits are). I eat a lot of lean protein, and five/six meals a day of about 500 calories each. Not really a diet, but it's what I picked up from reading eating hints in Oxygen magazine.

After an Atkins crash-and-burn experience (gained it back as fast as I lost it when I slipped and ate a tiny amount of carbs) I decided it was time to get serious about loosing weight for the wedding. I joined Weight Watchers last week. I've lost 5 lbs since starting.
It's retarded easy. You get X points a day. Figure out how many points foods are worth, use your points. You also get 35 flex points to use over the week. Nothing is forbidden; its all in how you want to "spend" your points It's basically focusing on portion control and filling up on veggies (which are zero point) foods. I'm 5 lbs lighter and I had pizza for dinner twice last week. Sounds good to me :) |
I've been doing Atkins these past few weeks, and doing pretty well on it.
Some of the important points of Atkins are: - You must drink your water. - You must exercise. - You must eat your allotted carbs. It's lowcarb, not no-carb. - You must accept that you're going to be eating lowcarb for the rest of your life (the maintenance plan). Atkins is a way of life, not a quick-fix diet. But that's really not so different from lowfat, or low-calorie, or WW, etc. No matter what plan you choose, if you start stuffing your face with the "wrong" things, you're going to gain the weight back. If you only have a few pounds to lose, though, I would suggest instead just cutting out simple sugars and white flour, cutting down on your portion sizes, and getting out and exercising. For a lot of people, that does the trick. |
This might sound ridiculous, but when I was in a similar situation (trying to lose just a few pounds), I ate regularly but always left some of my meal on my plate - I think I got the idea from some prescription diet pill, but if you leave a little of your meal (i.e. eat slowly and stop eating when you're full!) it really does add up and make a huge difference.

i totally agree with some of the things you said, but let's face it moderation is the key, combined with diet and exercise and of course drinking lots of water. I've tried to limit my intake of fatty foods-but still splurge now and then. I actually have gotten into working out mid morning after class and then I eat healthy the rest of the day. My fav is the new BK chicken baguette, only 4 grams of fat-leaving me feeling without the least bit of guilt:) LOVE IT!

I used to eat 3 pizzas a day
...I would eat large "meat lovers" pizzas for evey meal. No... I am kidding... But I realized I couldn't stuff food down my throat like that and stay fit and trim! So I learned moderation and exercise. Guess what, it works... I still eat a "meat lovers" pizza every once and a while, when Kip Winger pays me a visit, and I am just fine.
