Christmas is..

The Folger's commercial when Peter comes home.. lol..that signals Christmas to me

Going out to choose holiday cards for friends and family

Finding the perfect Christmas dress for my daughter

Explaining that Christmas is a birthday party for Jesus and that everyone gets presents (I explained this to her last night and she looked like this   , lol)

Playing my John Denver and the Muppets record (now CD) to hear "Little Saint Nick" by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, lol

Smelling live Pine tree.

Watching my mom decorate (she doesn't let anyone help her, lol)

Watching my daughter get so excited as it gets closer and closer to Dec. 25

Her excitement at having 2 Christmases; one with me, one with her Daddy

Hot cocoa in front of a roaring fire

Getting Christmas cards in the mail

Answering the phone, "Merry Christmas" on Dec. 23 thru 25th.

eta: How did I forget the Charlie Brown Special?!! I love Linus' story of Jesus' birth and when the kids are all dancing...

This commercial is so like 1984, lol, but it is the universal commercial. Peter should have at least 3 advanced degrees by now. Do they even still make Folgers?

Christmases past-back in the day...

In Christmases past, my folks house use to be far and away from other folx houses--25 odd years ago...

So my dad's fraternity brothers and friends (I guess some from the Sigma Pi Phi Boule) would call themselves "Christmas Caroling" at folx houses, then they'd have a hot toddy or two or three...

By the time they reach our house, well... Their rendention of "Silent Night" took a whole new meaning... Like, one year, I was told that the "Drunks" were there when Santa Claus came and they help him put my toys together... That Donald Duck jumping thing kids use to have NEVER worked!!!

Anyhow, those were memorable Christmases...

Now I have my own little family to create my own little traditions... No kiddies to share the wonder and splendor of excitement for Christmas...

Yep...they still make Folgers and I enjoy every cup. That Folger's commercial with the famous 'Peter" came on the WE channel about 2 weeks ago. It sure brought back some memories.

Going back to the topic of the thread, it's not Christmas without:

Christmas Eve Mass

Mommy's Christmas breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My Auntie's pot roast and Mac & Cheese
My sister's cheesecakes...I'm going to start baking some goodies this year ;)

Spending time and sharing laughs with fam and friends.

Oh yeah...and the animated/claymation Christmas specials...Does anyone remember the Muppets Christmas Special??

Things that make Christmas special to me:

*walking into my mother's house and smelling all the cakes and pies she is baking...then licking the bowls! I'm still a big kid.

* just sitting at my mom's house with the candle lits and looking at the Christmas tree. Now, I get a big kick out of putting up my little Charlie Brown Christmas tree with my husband every year. I guess we'll go ahead and invest in a decent one next year.

*cleaning out my closets and my pantry to see what I have to donate

*Listening to the Temptations Christmas CD

Y'all have some really, really fine answers already!

Christmas isn't Christmas without my church's musical evening, the Sunday prior to Christmas.

Christmas Eve services.

Thanking the Lord for His perfect gift to us before opening our presents.

A sugar high by, oh, 10 am... (sweet rolls, cookies, desserts...)

Going to the cemetery the week before Christmas, to decorate my Daddy's grave (and my grandparents'). He just died 2 years ago; it seems like 2 weeks...

The specials, esp. Charlie Brown!

Nat King Cole's Christmas songs

(this is a new one) Love, Actually

Remembering goofy things about past Christmases!

1. My family buying our tree like four days before Xmas (always when the last child comes home from college).

2. "It's a Wonderful Life" one of my favorite movies!

3. Playing cards and feeling the "spirits" (lol) of the holidays.

4. Waiting till Christmas Eve to wrap all our presents!

5. On Christmas day my grandmother has to put her best gown, hair, and makeup on in case we take pictures!

Christmas just ain't Christmas without going to the movies as a family to see whatever looks good. This year, it'll be Fat Albert. This Christmas, I'm trying to keep busy so that I won't think too much about the baby that we lost this year.

This Christmas by Donny Hathaway. This song is ALL I need to get in the holiday spirit.

It is never Christmas for me until I hear this song!

Lady of Pearl 12-27-2004 11:41 PM

Christmas just isn't Christmas without - It's a wonderful Life, The Brady Bunch Christmas reunion - I watched the other night and saw Jan with an AKA blanket that she gave her husband as he was packing up his things to move out (as they were separating) before they got back together at their parents. He goes I didn't like that blanket anyway. I was like:eek: I looked at the credits and could not find anyone on there who was a Soror, Question where did that blanket come from? Did anyone else notice that!
