I like animals, but I also like fur. I personally wouldn't wear one. Pimps are really the only men who can get away with that. I think anti-fur people have the right to their beliefs. But I think they go too far sometimes (i.e. storming the catwalk at last year's Victoria Secret's show to protest against Giselle appearing in fur ads).

I think fur is t-a-c-k-y.

I saw a man wearing a fur last year near Central Park. I nearly burst out laughing in his face. I thought that he was Putty from Seinfeld. :p

Mink and Potatoes anyone? |
Also let me point out I would never destroy anyone else's fur coat (or any of their property, period!). Nor am I psychotically morally opposed to fur coats. I just think they're kinda gross. And really, not that stylish. They remind me of dirty old ladies. ew.

I don't own a fur coat, but I do see the need for them...if you live in the Arctic circle or Alaska, Sweden, Norway, Finalnd and Iceland. Not saying that their aren't synthetics that are better, but I can see using them there.
While I think that it's wrong to kill an animal solely for sport or their hide/fur, as long as people keep buying the products it's going to continue. And to be honest, I'm not going to start wearing plastic shoes and give up my leather jacket. It's warm and comfortable. |

i love animals. i could never wear fur. it's just really creepy, regardless of how i feel about animals.
i think most members of PETA, while they have good intentions, are completely out of check with reality. they do the most ridiculous things and just get people outraged instead of informed. they could do a much better educational program than the nonsense they do like climbing up buildings and throwing around paint. it gives normal animal activists a bad name and little respect. i saw a picture the other day--can't remember where---of a woman holding the skinned body of a large animal. i wanted to throw up. the idea that many of these animals are skinned alive so as not to ruin the fur is just sickening. and the carcasses are just tossed in the trash. heartbreaking. now i really am on the fence with leather. maybe i'm a hypocrite since i wear it. my hope is that they use the rest of the animal for meat when they take the skin for leather. does anyone know for sure? |
fur coats remind me of Cruella DeVille (from Disney's 101 Dalmations) :p

I love leather, and fur... I mean, who doesn't look good in white rabbit? and yes, I did have a pet rabbit, it's completely a different situation. Fur is not tacky, it's incredibly warm, and luxurious feeling to the skin. |
Besides the fact that I'm allergic to most fur items and it makes me sad to feel like I'm wearing a dog or other cute, furry animal...I think fur is kind of tacky. I really haven't seen anyone wear fur and (in my opinion) look good.
|
I agree with the fur-is-tacky crowd. I think it's one of those things that once had a place in society, but now there's really no reason for it. There's so many other things that you can wear to keep warm (and look good!) that it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to keep killing animals for it.
Leather is another story. As is eating meat. I don't think I've seen anybody under the age of 60 owning fur lately. And to be honest, it just LOOKS weird. Why do you want to look like you're wearing an animal pelt on your back? |
I like my leather jacket..I like meat..screw PETA pushers :p
Fur is okay, I just prefer leather. Did anyone get wind of the PETA deal in Huntington WV? They took pictures of Jews from the Holocaust and was comparing them to animals in cages (from processing plants, etc)!!! Yes..they were actually comparing humans to animals  I hate PETA. |
I don't look down on anyone who wears fur....
But I won't wear it... There was the cutest ad with a baby harp seal pup in a magazine and I nearly wept... Can't imagine anyone clubbing a cute thing like that over the head...Their big little eyes alone made me melt... |
