LOL. You're so right. There is a reason why people abandoned these hats the first time around -- they are ridiculous looking. Ridiculous on even the hottest guys and gals. Now why do you want to go and make yourself look dumb? (Are you listening Benicio Del Toro? Brad Pitt? Ashton Kutcher? Justin Timberlake -- the list goes on and on.)

The only time trucker hats are cool is when people wore them before it was "cool" to wear them;)

The difference is it actually looks kind of cute on Pharell.. on most other people, it just makes them look stoopid.

Are you listening, Ashton Kutcher?

i am from california. i live in san diego. i wear abercrombie, von dutch, trucker hats, urban outfiters, etc.
i like this look. why? i dont know, it is different, and fun. in LA i can see how people would be over it because usually everything starts there. in the mid-west i can see how you would not understand it because, well we dont understand you. why would you understand us.
but there are people who wear it, and it is cool. i personally would never wear plane old blue jeans from jc penny. they need to at least be a little vintage. the fully pressed and perfect look is just not working out here on the west coast. there are more stylish vairations of the messy/trucker look. ther are people who wear it in a classy way, and not a tacky way. it may be a fasion fad, but that is what fasion is...a fucking fad. here today, gone tomorrow.

On another board I was on, the subject of "trucker chic" (lawhamercy) came up. And somebody posted a link to this parody ad. CTHU. CTHU.

My little brother begged my mom to go into Abercrombie about a month ago.

Her reaction when she walked in?

"Why is everything so wrinkly in here?"

Some little 12 year-old girl was walking around the mall in a Ryder trucker hat, a Von Dutch polo shirt, and this ripped up skirt. I can't exactly describe how she looked but I will say she looked like a hot mess. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw her. It was awful.

truckers chic is not cool. People look ridiculous, but whatever. To each their own I guess.

You are the people who call Paris Hilton a fashion plate
;) :)
And alot of trends start in NY, or on the runways......

The_Nash 01-13-2004 05:28 PM

didnt everyone see Tom Green announce that he killed the Von Dutch trend?

kddani 01-13-2004 05:36 PM

OMG I HATE trucker hats.

They remind me of riding the bus in elementary school/junior high. The old guy bus drivers would always have on those hats, and it would annoy me because they were just floating on their heads... a good couple inches between the hat and their head.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't date a guy who reminded me of my school bus driver :)

And girls look even more ridiculous in them........

Oh but it is, I thought everyone knew that! My dad has been wearing "trucker caps" (we call them seed corn caps here) since about 1983. They look really good with his boots and jeans when he's going into town in the old pick-up. But you know, you have to coordinate the coat to the cap. You wouldn't want to be wearing a Pioneer Seed hat with a DeKalb coat, the horrors!!! You would be talked about at the Co-op for weeks! ;)

Nope, I don't get fashion, and that's okay by me. I like things classic, anyway.

sororitygirl2 01-13-2004 11:55 PM

I think Von Dutch hats are hilarious, not cool.

I thought they were cool about 6-8 months ago, but when you see them on little high schoolers, that's when you know they're kind of over, in my opinion.

aurora_borealis 01-14-2004 12:13 AM

The look has been over for months...and even when it is was in, it wasn't. Same goes for those velour and velvet jogging/warmup/leisure suits. Even MORE SO for the jumpsuits with flared legs.

There is a girl I saw at the bar every Wednesday night last semester with a red trucker hat. She would wear it with a hot pink shirt sometimes. If I see it again on her this semester it may accidentally get knocked off, trampled, soaked in liquor and set on fire.

I also live in a farming community and attend a university with a strong Ag program, it is obvious by the lack of Wranglers or Carhartts who is in the fad and who isn't.
