I need to vent...again!

President Clinton said so and it is true- never again will anyone be able to say their vote does not count! I wonder how much of an increase we will see in future elections as a result.

Also, George "Wimp" Bush says that as president he will work hard to gain the confidence of Gore supporters. What, is he nuts?!?! He will never earn my confidence, trust, support, approval, or future vote!

Now, I feel a wee bit better...for the time being.

Instead of e-mailing for the 411 on the Florida ballot, here is a weblink:> http://cnews.tribune.com/news/image/...-82373,00.html

We still have to realize that the POPULAR vote does not ELECT a President. It is the vote of the MEMBERS of the ELECTORAL COLLEGE.

However, this could have been a race for Mayor, Senator, etc. THEN YES, IN THAT INSTANCE...EVERY VOTE DOES COUNT!

SkeeBunny 11-08-2000 05:28 PM

I agree with you all ... this is just waaaaay too much! I am stressed out like you wouldn't believe. Anybody who believes that all this drama is mere coincidence is completely dillusional. Here is a link I received via email regarding those missing ballots in Florida. Can we all say C-O-N-SPIRACY?

I'm watching Inside Edition I am just like...WHOAH!

Florida had some ole rinky dink ballots that confused alot of the voters. I am like...here in Louisiana, we had computerized voting. I thought Florida, being PROGRESSIVE http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif and all that they would come better than that!

Anyway, those voters may have voted for Buchanan accidentally. Buchanan received over 3,000 votes in Florida. Many of those votes could have been for Gore...

What's really going on?

LadyAKA 11-08-2000 06:27 PM

AKA2D '91 I have to respectfully disagree, the popular vote USUALLY leads the electoral vote, only twice in history has it gone astray. So, I have to make the statement that everyone's vote counts ALL OF THE TIME!
No matter when, why and where you vote!! Vote cause it does count!!

AKA2D '91 11-08-2000 06:35 PM

It is important Soror, FOR ALL OF US TO VOTE, but in instances like this for the ELECTION of a PRESIDENT, the Electoral College REALLY DECIDES, then after that IT CAN GO TO THE HOUSE of Representatives..., that is in AN EXTREME case...

I know I maybe getting up there in age, and I DON'T remember like I used to... but this POLITICAL SCIENCE degree does come in handy from time to time. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

DANG! I DO GET TO USE IT! LOL

All I know is that I am scared. I don't see how any self respecting minority or homosexual or woman could vote for Bush. He is so anti anything except WASP.

I have my bags packed to move to Canada. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Especially since this Voters Rights Act thing is coming up in about six years.

I do believe that your vote counts. If I am not mistaken, the Electoral Vote is kind of based upon the popular vote. At least the majority. Like if most people in one state voted for Gore than all of the state electoral votes go to him, it is not split like popular votes are. That is how Gore (so they say)could lose the electoral but win the popular.

Another thing why does it seem that everyone (reporters) swares that Bush has won. Florida has absentee ballots that still have about 9 days to even arrive in the state. So if Bush is only winning by a few thousand then if the absentee ballots come in for Gore that could change everything.
REMEMBER the eletoral college does not meet until Dec 16, 2000. SO REALLY we won't know until then. Even some of them cheat and vote against who they agreed that they would vote for.

Keep praying that this remains the land of the free for EVERYONE

I'm hooked on CNN's website today! Something that bothers me as well is that there are voters in Palm Beach who voted for Pat Buchanan, but meant to vote for Al Gore. They say there is obviously a problem because Buchanan's votes were too high. This is driving me crazy!

Good morning all!

First of all....the Voting Rights Act has nothing to do with our right to vote....that's guaranteed by the 15th Amendment. The VRA simply outlaws the government from doing anything to hamper anyone's right to vote. If neccessary, Congress can extend the act...(judging by FL elections....it is) I can say that Florida IS NOT PROGRESSIVE at all! Do not be fooled! And please....somebody say a prayer for me because I work for the Dem. party down in FL and I expected to be resting easy right about now......it ain't so! Keep the faith, hopefully what't right and fair will prevail (if not I am England-bound!) Take care!

AKA2D '91, If I were reading this and had no idea about Electoral College & popular vote (which many, young and old really don't understand) I would think my vote does not count. So, I have to beg to differ yet again!! I do not have a Poly Sci degree I graduated w/ a CSC degree and so maybe the statistical / analyzing wizard is coming out in me?!?!
Let us contemplate over the following:
1) The states that Gore won the popular vote (i.e. you and me voting for him and he wining) did he not also 'Technically' take that states Electoral College votes? I think yes
2) Why don't we have a president yet for 2001? Because the world is waiting for f'ed up Jeb Bush town to recount messed up popular votes, and so far Bush is winning … so is it safe to say that winner of the popular vote there will take the Electoral College votes also? I think yes EC votes usually follows pop vote

So why would you say that our popular votes does not count and does not elect the president? To my understanding, our popular vote elects electoral college and then based on who Al Gore and bush choose to represent them, then on December 18, electoral college votes based on what the people (i.e. popular vote) wants. As stated once before this has only gone astray twice in History, true it can happen again, but I would be careful saying our vote does not elect the president because I think it does … that is why split voting and voting for Nader in states Gore should win, is just not good enough, vote for the person you want to win. All news stations are now talking about how Gore is winning popular vote Nationally …. He could not do this without us voting for him.

*************GUESS WHAT***************

My sister clued me into this, we feel that
Jeb bush purposely messed up the votes in Florida, maybe he was not the one who did it but the state knowingly committed all this fraud because if it is found out that some type of fraud was committed the votes are thrown out, no one will re-vote!! Congress will cast the vote, and guess what Congress is majority Republican. So yes, bad stuff is going on in Florida but they knew that they would win either way. 1) if people just let the fraud go on - bush wins via this fraudulent activity, or 2) if they were caught doing illegal stuff and charged, it does not matter Congress will vote their boy in anyway!!! What do yall think? I am at the point were if Bush wins, he won't hold office for the entire 4 years, and if he does he will definitely not be reelected!!!

Oh and I found out that constitutionally you DO NOT NEED AN ID or a registration card to vote, so if a state is doing that (or was) then it is illegal and unconstitutional and you DO NOT NEED TO COMPLY, you just need to sign your name on the dotted line on the affidavit stating you are who you say ....nothing else is needed - bust as I said b4 carry ID, but you SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PULL IT OUT. Our vote is over but in years to come you can use this info.
