I would just like to say the Indiana University chapters are not the ones who decide to charge a fee for recruitment. When Panhel was asked where the money goes for each person that registers, they told us that the fees go to pay for the MANY speakers and events that come to campus each year to talk to the chapters. And these speakers do an awesome job. There are speakers who talk about alcohol related topics, depression, eating disorders, suicide and things of that nature...basically, it is to help each person in the greek community. Though $40 is a little expensive, the speakers are awesome, so I feel that it is worth it.

If $10 is "nothing" - why charge it?

Thanks for the comments and bitches, and even a PM.

If $10 is "nothing" - why charge it? Who gets it? Do they need it?

If a fee keeps one potential pledge from participating, drop it.

If required registration keeps one potential pledge from participating, drop it.

When this is over, let's see the numbers. I hope they're up, but I think they're headed the wrong way.

{IF any of you want to see a great article about IU rush (the best ever system), send me a FAX No. or mailing address.}

And I'm off to the Women's World Cup in swampy Washington, DC. Go USA Women.

Charging a fee to register for recruitment is not something new, guys. Maybe it is at IU, but every school I have heard of (obviously, there are many I have not heard of) charges a fee. I think at University of Florida (or a similar large school), it's close to $100! But still, over 1,000 people go through the process (and that's just for the sororities). As for "why do I have to pay to be Greek"....mmm, we all pay to be in the Greek system with our dues, right? What's 10 freaking dollars?

I don't go to IU and this is news to me. I've never heard of fraternity rush charging a fee for rushees to participate.

It's kind of wacked out if you ask me.
