yay!! i love to hear about new chapters (or recolonizing chapters)-- especially when they're AZD ;)
|
I find it odd that Chi Omega closed last semester and D Phi E is closing now as well, but there is still room for expansion...
|
It's always sad to see chapters close :(

NPC The Biennial Awards for 2001-2003 have been announced. College Panhellenic Awards: OVERALL EXCELLENCE: Campuses with over 10 chapters Chi Omega Fraternity Sponsor Cornell University (Ironic that Chi Omega sponsored the award, huh?!) Alpha Xi Delta -- I wish you the best in your colonization efforts. |
re NPC awards, I have a question. Don't you have to actually apply to be eligible to win? i.e., it is not truly a best out of the nation, it's a best out of who applied.
Nothing against Cornell, but I agree that it's strange to see two chapters close so quickly and expansion occurring. It would be different if there was an overall downturning in the system and groups were leaving because of general lack of interest. |
33, I think you're right -- I think they have to submit an application in order to win an NPC award, but I'll defer if there are any "green-book-toting" GCers out there who know for sure!

For what it's worth, from what I gleaned from the women I met, Cornell does actually have a very strong system. What I took away from it was that Chi O closed, mostly due to lack of alumnae support in the area, etc, and that there were a significant number of women who were not being placed in houses, thus creating a need for expansion.
From what I saw, the other chapters seemed to be very supportive of D Phi E, and I definetly took away the impression that they were doing what they could do help. They had a very progressive informal rush/COR program this fall.... I dont know. It's sad that D Phi E is leaving as well, but hopefully they'll be back someday. All of the other chapters on that campus seemed to be really strong. Good luck to Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Phi Epsilon and Chi Omega in their Cornell chapters.... |
