This is a wonderful article. I'm glad you posted it.

The national past presidents know White-Ware. Past president Hortense Canady recalls that during the 1980s, White-Ware fought bitterly against lowering the required grade-point average for prospective Deltas to 2.3 - a change the sorority eventually made and lived to regret, she said.
I didnt realize that such a small change would have such a drastic outcome in membership.

When Grace attended Harriet Beecher Stowe Teachers College in St. Louis in the 1940s and her friends pledged a rival sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho, she considered doing likewise. She didn't care for the Delta chapter on her campus. "All my friends were Sigmas. Every one of them. The Deltas liked the light-skinned ones, the damn-near-white ones, and I wasn't damn-near-white," she said.

The idea didn't go over well with mom, who threatened her daughter with bodily harm.
:D

Soror I know you have been told some of the stories, too. I'm looking forward to meeting and chatting with you. Make sure you bring pictures, scrapbooks, etc. to Philly. We got some things to discuss. ;)

That was a wonderful story! Indeed, thank you for bumping this thread. I love encountering living history of any of our organizations.

Edited for spelling

Yep. I was on Grace's birthday card list until I moved and I haven't seen her since then to give her my new address. (I last saw her at the 90th.) I still have a book she sent me that recounts all of the historical things that had happened on October 25. In it she writes..from one Oct. [baby] to another Oct. [baby]

Some of the stories I have heard involve the shenanigans she and my mother used to get into as single women, so those WILL NOT be shared. :D
