After posting what I said earlier this week, I did not plan on being attacked by all of you! I think I am entitled to my opinion, and I doubt the rest of you know how Sigma works. With that in mind, I'd keep your comments about our rush to yourselves! We can accept whomever we want into our house, and we can exclude whomever we want also. Sigma is a very prestigious house at WIU, and we are selective. I'm sorry if you other houses on campus can't afford to be as picky. :o

Ummmm... oh my gosh. Big pat on the back for you!!!   :o :( Please, please, please enlighten me on "how Sigma works". You know, I have Sigma friends and they've never bothered to tell me how much better they are than me before. I'm curious. [/snark] No one has criticized your sorority whatsoever. People were merely discussing Panhellenic and rush issues. You're the one who brought "how Sigma works" into it. And you made some very negative comments about Greek life in general, too. |

Wow....I can't believe how embarrassing this is to hear about this website from somone on campus. After all we did to try and keep you from deactivating from our house? Now you just go and be a complete snob on greekchat in front of everybody? You are trashing our house's name! You are making us sound horrible! We should have just let you go! I don't know why you think it's okay to tell people that we don't like to accept upperclassmen! That is just bad PR! The greek system at WIU is weak enough right now as is without a little prissy b**** like you going around venting your feelings publicly on a national chat forum! You should be ashamed! I know Sigma is ashamed in you!

whoa... i'm just going to quickly step away from this one

wow sorry didn't mean to cause such drama... I just wanted to know about Western's rush!

sigmasweetie,
When you used "we" I did not realize you were referring to your sorority exclusively - I thought you meant the entire system was reluctant to accept anything other than freshmen. I was not questioning any decisions that one particular sorority makes. Had I known what you really meant, I would have been a lot less nice. |
I am not shallow, but there is some validity to Sigma Sweetie's argument, though she may not have the intelligence to convey her message with more tact. I know plenty of sophs that pledged top six sorortities (sorry, but everyone knows whom the top six are at Texas, it is no secret) and rush is much more difficult for them. Though, they do pledge, they have much more in common with the actives than the pledges, therefore, do not cultivate very strong bonds with their pledge classes. However, each person and each situation is unique, and therefore not safe to assume any outcome.

phishphan at ut,
Your name was playing tricks on me. I thought you were a Pi Phi named Shannon. :) You are however a phan of Phish. I don't think it should be a negative that older pledges might not be super close to their pledge class - especially nowadays when being in college only 4 years is the exception rather than the norm. |
It was not my intention to convey that being excluded (too strong of a word) from their pledge class was a negative, but simply that people have grown since their freshman year and normally have different priorities. Everyone has their own experience in the greek system, and takes away from it a unique perspective. For instance, for myself, I did not exclude myself from members of other fraternities simply because I wore different letters. I hung out with people I liked, not just the people I was encouraged to like. Some people just get too caught up in the whole thing, which I feel sorry for.

Quick, where's the popcorn- I see a catfight coming on!

Please refrain from airing Tri Sigma dirty laundry on a very public board. Your words hold more power than you know. During this time of Fall recruitment, where potential new members may be reading these boards, your words have darkened their image of our lovely sisterhood. If you have words to say, please take them off the board and handle them in your chapter meetings. This is both very un-Sigma like behavior and completely uncalled for. If this continues, your chapter's Alumnae Advisory Board or your Collegiate Coordinator may be contacted.
