Living in the house is included in your dues. The budget is made and rent, food, etc. are considered and then you're billed at the beginning of the semester. You either pay it all up front or if your chapter has a payment plan you can break it up over the semester. If your national owns your house then all of the money goes to them, if your university owns it then the chapter cuts a check to the university from that money for rent. That's how it worked with us anyway...

I think it is at most places...otherwise what would be the draw to get people to live in?

And to answer Matt's question, we get billed for our rent by the chapter every month. We aren't "on-campus" though, so it might be different if you are.

In all instances, it depends if you have a House or not.

But, What do you as a Chapter want to do?:confused:

Do you are will you want to build your own House! The Alums are not necessarly the answer but helpful!

Why do you pay dues and Fees! Da, to Your Hdqs to pay for their costs and to pay for your budget, such as partys, rush, Alum Involement, homecoming. etc!

It isn't necessarily cheaper at all schools. The "draw" includes many aspects - nicer housing, better food at eat in houses, house boys & maids, but the main reason is to be able to live with your sisters.

Zeta moved into their new house at South Carolina last year (the first sorority in the new village - there were also four fraternities who moved in last year). I saw the inside of the house while it was under construction and have seen pictures since then. No, it definitely is not a Tara facade! It is the real thing! Awesome!!

In most instances, smaller schools with Chapter Houses find that having a food operation can be expensive, ergo opt for the School Food Service!

One more room to put into a new house that builds up the cost of a new house!

1. Bathing Facilities.
2. Kitchens.

Just like building a private House!:(

Well shoot, I'm glad we didn't have house boys if Tom wouldn't be mine! ;)

Most of us did just get a campus meal plan - or get campus dining dollars. I usually ate breakfast at the house during the week and then ate lunch and dinner on campus. On weekends I'd usually order in. Most of the other girls did this too, although a few cooked for themselves.

I actually just moved to Columbia, SC where USC is located and the first thing I went and found was the Kappa Alpha house! :) Its gorgeous, I can't wait to see the inside sometime! My sorority isn't present at USC, but I was a KA little sister, so I was excited to see them at USC and with such a magnificent house!

Congratulations to all the greeks at USC! You're going to love your new homes!

The houses at USC are going to be so nice. I'm so excited for AXO there. I heard about the plans two years ago when they were raising money, designing plans, etc. I'm sure alumni contributions helped a whole lot, and nationals probably chipped in as well. All the sororities and fraternities here at UGA have awesome houses too. I feel privileged to be able to live where so many women in my chapter have lived over the years. A few of our houses here are even on the historic registry (and SAE can't put letters on their house because of this). Although, with older houses often come expensive maintenance probs (ie our new A/C system we put in a few years ago). Congrats to USC, i'm sure it will mean a lot of increased strength for their greek system.

Do any chapters have a houses without a kitchens, sort of like a small dorm? If the chapter was right near campus and there was on campus food service they would be able to cut the cost of building a house.
