My husband and I had been dating for 4 months before he said "I love you."

It was very worrisome, because he'd been in two serious relationships before we started dating, and he told each of those girls that he loved them within a month. He says that in retrospect, he hadn't really loved them - so he didn't want to say "I love you" to me until he was absolutely sure it was the real thing.

Nobody else I dated ever told me that they loved me - things just never got to that point.

So what you're actually saying is your husband is a retired player?

-check my previous post in this thread and you'll see why I drew this conclusion-

My husband and I did things in a rather mixed up order. We had been friends for four years, and then we realized that we had serious feelings for each other. After telling each other "I love you," we decided that maybe we should try dating. We dated for eight years, and we will be married ten years this December.

Um, yea:rolleyes:. You just haven't realized it yet. Talk to him, ask him if he was a pimp back in the day. You might be surprised.

He said it right away. He said it and meant it a few weeks later. I said it a few weeks after that.

LOL @ aephialum being married to a retired player/pimp! ;)

Go back and read what he said to her, what do you think? Think he was telling those girls he loved them and wasn't getting any? I doubt it. He was definitely pimping out.

Its not something I throw around. But, if you feel you love the person then say so. I would love to be able to tell some one I loved them. I would want to say it first though, to prove I'm romantic.

D'OH!

I think he wishes he'd been a player... :p

In all seriousness, I know my husband better than that, and I know he wasn't getting any. I've met both of these girls. One was the wait-until-marriage type and the other was the not-waiting-until-marriage-but-not-ready-to-give-up-my-precious-flower-of-virginity-yet-either-and-besides-I'm-a-psycho type.

Hmmm... I wonder if he was telling these girls he loved them in order to get them to put out...

I'd say he probably was.....I know plenty of guys that say that to women, and it's all bullshit.

MeLikey 08-13-2003 02:33 AM

I've only said it to one guy-- my ex-boyfriend of a year and a half... it was after 2 months when he came to visit me during winter break... he said it first, then I did. We even talked about marriage after 8 months. Now we haven't talked to each other since January and I'm sure we never will. Go figure.

juniorgrrl 08-13-2003 02:43 AM

On our first date, which was about a month after we decided to be boyfriend/girlfriend (hey, it was high school). I said it back that night because I was a bit freaked and didn't know what to do. But I know I meant it on some level.

We'll be together 6 years on 9-7-03. We're getting married on 5-29-04. :D

erniegurl00 08-13-2003 03:23 AM

My bf and I have been together for almost two and half years. Umm...we said I love you after a week. Yeah, I know it sounds rushed, but it felt like the right time. :)

I was kind of sketchy on telling my ex-bf that I loved him cuz I knew he was uncomfortable with those words, but then after we'd planned our six month trip to Niagara and then he started talking abt going to Hawaii for our one year I figured - yeah this guy is pretty committed, I can say it to him (this is around the 3.5/4 month mark) so I told him that i love him...then got broken up w/ abt a month later! prick! :(

Anyhow, the bad thing about those three words is that relationships always take a bad turn after that comes from someones mouth. Either the girl freaks out, you freak out, you start cheating on her or she starts cheating on you. Then there's the other side of it all where you just start acting like you're both married after "I love you" is said and you seem to go through what it's like to be married...( the worst possible scenario that can happen by saying I love you, trust me). It's all fucked up in my opinion. Then there's the commitment factor and fear of being tied down, from either the girl or the boy. Then there's rejection side of "I love you", someone tells you they love you and you kinda just sit there while you're bain is trying to figure an apropriate response if any at all. There've been 2 different occassions where girls have told me that and my brain actually locked up. I just sat there. With one of them I couldn't think of anything better to say than...."Thank you". The girl started crying and went back to her apartment, it sucked and killed whatever it was we had going on.

I do want to point out that there is that little period, assuming both of you tell each other those three words, where things go pretty good. If you ask people honestly, it doesn't last long before they start having second thoughts.

bumping inorder to explain all the bad turns I'm reading after saying "I love you".
