Here in Cali we have Wild Oaks which is similiar to Whole Foods and Trader Joes.

While it has a better selection than WF and TJ's it is a tad bit more expensive.

Wild Oats is OK. It's different than Whole Foods, more crunchy granola. I'm still a bit steamed because there's only one Whole Foods in OC, in Tustin, and it's not all that.

so anxious, tofu is wonderful. Chop it up and brown it in a little vegetable oil, then add it to stir-fried vegetables with soy sauce and sherry. Or else you can brown slices of it and use it in many recipes as you would browned chicken breast (i.e. heat it in a sauce such as sweet & sour, barbecue, honey-mustard, etc.) and serve it over rice.

Whole Foods also sells terrific meat substitutes (such as yummy veg meat balls) which are a great way to cut out saturated fat in your diet and replace it with soy protein.

Well I only know the locations near me- and there are several. There are a couple in Manhattan, the ones I am most acquainted with are on the Upper West side. Downside is that they are more expensive. Where are you located?

Fee Fee - My Mom is in Brooklyn Heights and there is a HUGE health food store on Remsen Street. It's awesome. She used to get organic baby food, crackers etc for CJ. I think it's across the street from St Francis College. There is also one on Livingston Street downtown.

TTT

My boyfriend and I have recently decided to slowly kick meat. I really only eat chicken and every once in a while beef. So we decided to try soy chicken patties. I have to admit they were the bomb!!! I also tried veggie burgers but I didn't like them.

I loooove Whole Foods. When I lived in Providence (before it was bought out by Whole Foods, it was Bread and Circus), it was the closest grocery store so it became my regular place. Their seafood selection is the best.

Now that I've moved, it's easier to get good gourmet and organic food, so I don't frequent WF that much. They sell the yogurts I like for much less than the neighborhood supermarkets, so I go about once a month to stock up on those.

If only there was a Trader Joe's! :(

Try morningstar farms products. The chick nuggets are good and my favorite are the chicken wings.

Does anyone know any stores around 10960? The closest place is Trader Joe's in Westwood, NJ. I'd like to find a bigger store or a closer one that has comparable prices.

FYI - If you have any thyroid problems, steer clear of soy products!

Wild Oats is great too

I am from Nashville and we have the store Wild Oats. Yes it is high...but a 13 year old son and me trying to go vegeterian...well lets just say I'd rather pay the extra for non-steroid chicken and veggies. Anyone do juicing? I need some ideas to do a 30 day fast using juicing without sugar.

I've heard of Whole Foods. Just not sure if I've seen it in GA or in my travels. I know there is not one in my neighborhood. Will have to do a search for it in ATL metro and check it out.

Re: Whole Foods

Whole Foods is good in terms of healthy food but I think that the neighborhood grocery store has an assortment of healthy foods (fruits, veggies and whole grains) that don't cost what the Whole Foods products cost. Many cannot afford that stuff but can still eat healthy.

On another note, my mom was telling me that there was some kind of study that found that when AAs when to the store, we go to the carbs and the meat and call it a day. What we *should* do is start shopping right when we walk through the door of the grocery store...in the fruit and vegetable department! AA children really don't eat enough fruit and vegetable.

Don't even get me started on the exercise that these kids are not getting.

Hi everyone,

I just recently (about 6 months ago) visited a health food store "Whole Foods" and I was completely amazed by the size, prices, and quality of food. Needless to say that I'm hooked I love the idea of eating chicken that hasn't been injected with all sorts of antibiotics, beef and seafood that’s fresh, homemade sausages, the hot bar, and the ready made food deli. I must admit perceptions of healthy food being nasty aren’t the case when it comes to this store. Has anyone been to Whole Foods if not, find the nearest one!! If so, how was your experience and what would you recommend?

On another note I was talking with an friend of mine that is into the whole tofu craze.. if anyone has tried tofu and liked it let me know?

P.S. I just notice my misspelled fields....please forgive my carelessness.

Charlotte is finally getting a Trader Joe's in 2007 but this article mentions a 2nd one coming soon: http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlot...s/15780296.htm

Still no Whole Foods though which I got to partake of in NYC in 2004.:)
