Tear day sounds interesting please explain preppygirl :D
|
Well, not to totally change the subject of the thread... but Tear Night is when the guys formally accept their bids to fraternities (or something like that... I'm still perplexed by formal fraternity recruitment at my school. I've heard that it's called Tear Night for two reasons. One, the guys tear the bids from the houses they don't want. Two, they tear off an old shirt and put on a new one that has their house name on it. Personally, I like number two a little better!!). That night all of the houses have parties (bands or djs). It's so nice to finally be able to relax after a stressful week of recruitment and you get to see what houses all of the freshmen guys pledged. Also, since recruitment is right after winter break, it's great to see everyone again (especially since the few weeks before winter break are consumed by finals and all of that kind of fun). It's a fun and crazy night!!

Our recruitment week doesn't even start until Sept. 2! But at least I get to live vicariously through everyone else's on GC until then. :D
Our Bid Day this year is on Sunday, with Pref the night before. I think last year it was backed up a day (that is, Pref on Friday and Bid Day on Saturday), but I guess this way it gives everyone the maximum amount of time to relax and prepare for these two awesome days! |
Our bid days the same day as pref parties. You pref in the am, extremely early. Then we're confined to our house for the remainder of the day and we regroup, mostly from naps, around four and decorate the house and get the presents ready for the new members.
Then all of our sororities travel to the back of the student union and it's a good hour of chanting outside by the chapters and what not while inside the rho gammas are reveavled to the girls and bids are announced. Then the deaffialated members of each chapter, aka rho gammas and panhel exec, lead their girls out running to meet the chapter. It's amazing that no ones ever fallen since you run down two flights of steps. Lots more chanting and hugs, tears and presents to pnm. Then slowly each chapter departs and heads back to the village chanting and does a lap around the village when they get there. All of the fraturnity boys pull couches in front of their houses and watch us all run by. They call it "the beaver run." That's the only part that sucks, I wish they'd call it something classier. |
Hey y'all ...
Our Bid Day is on Monday and I have a lab that night from 7:30-10:20pm! I'm so upset!! I'm going to try and get out of it and make it up another night. I really hope I can! otherwise I'm going to switch my lab to another night. Bid Day is always the best! Angie |
our bid day is monday
the girls find out around 12 last year, i took an hour long lunch break from work we have a bid night party later that night around 9 PM |
we have informal recruitment, so our bid day is basically when we say it is. :P
We usually hand out bids after our Pref ceremony. So our bid day is nothing like anyone else's. Often we go out for dinner afterwards but that's about it. |
First day of classes: 9/2 IGC Rush starts on 9/4, Formal rush kicks off on 9/15 and Bid Day is 9/24 http://www.spacespider.net/emo/spin01.gif

Our bid day was always on Sunday....We are a SMALL campus with 3 NPC groups. The PNM's meet at the patio on campus and get their cards the Recruitment Counselors then reveal who they are and run down the hill to wheir their chapter is waiting and then the girls open their cards and run to us!!! It is SOOOOO much fun, balloons, posters, music, etc. Then after tons of pictures, talking and having a blast all the groups meet back together for a panhellenic sing on the quad. It is great to see so many happy PNM's and sisters!

Bid Day is on Wednesday afternoon here. I have classes right up until, so I'll probably be bugging my rho sigma in between saying, "Am I going to Bid Day?"
At my old school, Bid Day was EARLY on Saturday morning. I distinctly remember it because I was asleep and all of the girls ran right past my window screaming. It was really cool, but not at 8 a.m. There it was called the cattle run. |
Well...I believe that I will have atleast two classes that day. If they are early in the day classes, I plan on going....but if they are within two or three hours of pref (monday), I'm not planning on going, and talking to my teacher and asking what other class I could attend...I know me and I know that I will be crazy flustered and panicked if I don't allow proper time to get ready for pref night, so I'm definitely doing that. I even plan on driving near pref so I don't have to walk and get all hot and sweaty!! On bid day, any classes before, I will attend, as long as they don't interact with bid day...if so I will once again try to attend another class!! However what SUCKS is that I'm not even sure about my schedule since I got CRAP classes so I'm waiting for the tuition payment deadline (when ppl get dropped if they havent paid :) ) to grab some good spots in classes.....ASU can be such a pain!!
I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad GC is no longer dead!!!!!! |
