I know that the Congresswoman we gave a certificate of achievement to at convention last year isn't (since she's in my area).

Melanie -- perhaps she's upset that she is not listed in our Prominent Gamma Phis section under government/politics -- BIG faux pas!! Seriously, she probably does not even know she is not listed....sigh!

Oh it's okay, Laurel Clark isn't listed anywhere that I could find. I think that part of our site has to still be under development - as there are a lot of prominent people missing!

Well, does anyone know anyone who could get a connection to the entertainment industry? Surely we have brothers and sisters out there who could, and would love to, get a show like that in the door.

AZpinkkittie 07-21-2003 11:48 AM

That's an excellent idea. The whole reason Sorority Life was on MTV was because the producer was greek, so there's gotta be another greek in the industry that wants to show the true, positive side of greek life. All of you super successful alums out there, get cracking on this!!

GPhiBLtColonel 07-21-2003 04:17 PM

Ack!

If the producer was greek, why on earth would he/she want to portray greek life in such a questionable way????

Simple -- he wants a show that will get RATINGS. Train-wrecks tend to get a lot of attention, so I'm guessing that's why SL/FL is the way it is.

I had also heard that the person who came up with the idea for the shows is Greek and wanted to portray Greeks in a good light.

Hmm.. nice job :p

Don't be ashamed of it, for Heaven's sake!

I agree with the negative publicity that MTV gave out, and it effects greeks everywhere. I am the RUSH chair for Panhell at my school, and we had a table at orientation last week, nad some parents of new frosh came up to me and asked if we were anything like the sororities on MTV. I had to explain that our sororities are NOTHING like those on MTV.

I don't understand why famous, or well known people would not claim their sorority, perhaps if they to claim the GLO affilitation then it would give us greeks a better reputation.

Edited b/c I can't spell :D

One thing I never grasped...for NPC's annual badge day -- the first Monday of March -- why don't they send an advance notice to GLO alum celebrities who are in the public eye and ask that they wear their badges that day -- or why the GLOs them selves don't nicely "beseech" public personalities who are alums to wear their badges -- just this once....I think it'd be neat to see badges on Katie Couric or Jane Pauley or Erin Moran or Joy Behar or Condoleeza Rice or Laura Bush or Carol Duval (HFTV but cannot recall whihc GLO she's an alum of) etc etc etc...sigh....when I am queen of the world! The badge will be mandatory attire for ALL alums!!;)

Yeah. I can understand why people like Condi Rice don't wear their badges every day, but when it's International Badge Day... get a clue!

To those who hide their affiliation for fear of stereotypes, I inquire: how will we ever overcome the stereotypes if the subjects of them give tacit agreement by their silence?

Excellent Excellent point kappakitty!

Now if NPC would just contact all these "famous" alums prior to badge day.....

To be fair, Int'l Badge Day isn't very well publicized. If I weren't a member of this board, I would never have known about it. I think that NPC and the individual sororities need to be more proactive in getting this message out to their alumnae.

I'm sure that most of these high profile women are very busy and probably don't realize that there is even such a thing as International Badge Day.
