Please wait until rush is over before you use the names- call them house 1, house 2, etc or A, B, C throughout rush.

Especially since there are people from your school on here. You don't want to say something not totally positive about a house and them read it then cut you because they think you don't like them.

You wouldn't want them to post their opinions on you every day, would you? ;)

I'd just advise to use as much discretion as possible. :) and good luck, i'm excited for you!

I definately agree w/ kddani. Or maybe since AXWoah wants to know how her chapter did so her chapter could improve on how they did recruitment you can pm her to let her know which one her chapter was out of the Chapter #'s.

ETA: I personally would think it is awesome if a pnm told me they used any kind of resource to help them prepare for recruitment. It shows they are interested and had the initiative to look up information!

I told my daughter.............
DON'T SAY NUTTIN' TO NOBODY!

I think it's great when the rush stories are being shared. Sometimes the extra support comes in handy. I would HIGHLY advise not to name names or get tooo descriptive where some body might figure out who is who and what is what!!!

I agree...for anyone at the University of Oklahoma, remember to keep words cautious when discussing sororities cause some groups are pretty sneaky about stuff. Not as bad as some schools in the deep south, but I've heard some crazy stories.

Would houses (in general) see this as a positive? I don't see why it would be a negative, unless it was bad to be too eager, but I don't know if it's something that should be said at all. Anyone wanna chime in?

I wouldn't mention it, especially if you plan on posting your rush story, simply because you could make one of the sorority members curious, she might log onto GC, figure out who you are and start reading all your posts. And if she comes across your rush story, she might be able to figure out which sorority is hers and that could lead to some trouble.

I think that those of us who post on GC on a regular basis, even if we have PNMs going through rush at our school, will generally use this power for good and not evil ;) . . . but I'd be wary of directing others here.

If you want to convey your enthusiasm to them, you could say something like, "I've been asking EVERYBODY I know who is Greek about rush and what to expect . . . I've been excited all summer" but avoid mentioning GC by name.

I would agree with what has already been said--don't mention Greekchat during rush. I remember that during fall rush last year, there was a girl who rushed at USC with me but was not placed in a house. She had told almost all the houses how she had tried to prepare for rush with GC. She had also posted her thread on GC. When informal came around in the spring, she went through to the three hosues which were participating in informal, but apparently word had gotten around about her story being online.

After reading that she had been cut by all sororities by the second day in fall recruitment, the houses assumed she must not be a quality girl. Problem is, she is actually a very sweet girl, just not your average sorority type. Since you never know who may be reading or who may stumble across in the future, I certainly would say not to advertise that you are on GC.

THe second reason is that recruitment on both sides has always seemed to me like trying as hard as possible to make lots of hardwork and effort appear natural, effortless, and carefree. Saying that you have used internet resources to prepare for rush just doesn't fit into the effortless, carefree categories. Because of all the tips you have learned on GC, I am sure our PNM's will be fabulous. But remember--a good magician never reveals his secrets!;)

Excellent, EXCELLENT point!
I don't know what it is, but there's radar out for girls who come on too strong and seem to WANT sorority life too much. You think it would be the opposite! Yet, time after time you hear about girls who perhaps went a bit to far in their enthusiasm. It's a shame because "youthful exuberance" can be a powerful asset. It's polish that helps one pull in the reins.

ditto...

good posts. just put all you know in your mental toolbox and use as needed. but you sound like a terrific girl, who should't need too much.

We all love crazy stories! Could you share?

AZpinkkittie 07-24-2003 11:06 AM

Thanks for the advice guys, all your posts made perfect sense!

AEPhiSierra 07-24-2003 10:31 PM

I think it would definitely be a great idea to have threads up by school -- though I doubt anyone from my school would use it.

Well, I won't name names or anything, but I did hear that one group sends some of their girls out to places where the PNM's might be, such as the tanning salon and stuff. The girls in the house will pretend like they too are rushing and all the girls will just sit and talk while waiting their turn to tan. I've heard that PNM's have leaked info that way and gotten cut cause they unknowingly told someone in the house their true feelings about everything. I honestly have no idea if it's true cause it's just talk I've heard from others, but I would not be surprised. Some groups rush really dirty and it's hard to catch them cause they're so sneaky about it.

Oh my goodness! That is crazy! (OK, I still haven't been able to figure out how to paste those smilie faces, but if I had, I would post about five of the purple ones with the big flashing eyes. Just use your imagination.)

Thanks for letting us in on that. What a cautionary tale!

ZetaMelOU 07-25-2003 06:00 PM

Well, I hope it's just a rumor :). I'd like to bust someone doing that cause that is completely wrong.

SigkapAlumWSU 07-25-2003 10:27 PM

I know that there is one woman who is going through rush at Washington State University, and I am super excited because hardly anyone on GC is from or even near Washington (and I swear that I'm the only one that's ever heard of GC sometimes!) I know that rush week is a very busy time, but I do hope that she does post her rush story because I'd love to hear about her experience. I never went through formal rush myself, so I'm always interested to hear people's experience. Whether or not she reveals house names or not, it's still a good thing to hear.
