At an Interest Tea this one girl stood up and asked--What did yall have to do?--I mean did ya'll have to do crazy stuff? when ya'll pledged..I heard ....
Then this woman walked in she was at least 45..in a pink and green sweat suit (to Formal Rush).. hair all over her head etc, she proceeded to be loud and crazy the entire time Another year a girl came with pink nail polish with ivy leaves airbrushed across then--and then proceeded to tell us why she did not like the AKA's at one of our sister campuses in the same city!!! One lady wanted to sell Mary Kay and told us about her intentions to be more active in the grad chapter (she was also in her 40's) and my all time favorite.... AKA? Also Known As What? |
Ok I really don't understand something.....
What would possess these women from coming to a rush with the organizations colors on? If they didn't wear the colors to other events, why now...to a rush...would they wear them. Do they think this shows some type of loyalty?
I don't understand.... I actually have an embarrassing story but it is not all that like the other stories: It was at an XYZ Organization informational and everyone was asked why did they attend or what do they like about the org. This one young lady said she liked the org because she liked their colors. Oh well.... |

This happened to us a few times! What is WRONG with people?? |
I think that many people don't know the protocol when it comes to sorority/fraternity functions and are simply ignorant to those things that we Greeks take for granted that they should know. Unless there is someone grooming an interest to be "the model interest" then there will be women/men who make those mistakes... hey a girl wore red to my rush... (Bad example she didn't get in...) But talking to this girl at the rush, she didn't know any better. I know for a fact if you ask a New Yorker what a sorority was they would think animal house, school daze or hazing. Let’s realize people that GDI's may not know what they are doing. On Black college campuses for me the behavior is less excusable because of the culture is so engrained. What about a majority white school or a school without a big Greek presence?

At my rush and the line after mine, the same poor girl came to rush and froze on the spot. I mean at my rush she was called up and just stood there in a trance in front of EVERYBODY and I mean there was dead silence , I don't mean like ten seconds I mean like two-three minutes. Then two years later she did the excact same thing at another rush. People felt more sorry for her than appalled. She had to get herself together in the hallway the second time. Poor thing.

**small hijack maybe?*** :)
I knew a girl who went to an AKA founders day (not a rush) and asked what were the 20 pearls and what did they mean. |

I have two...
I have been to two Rush's and I have had embarrasing moments at each one. At the first one (undergrad) one of the members walked up to me and said loudly, "weren't you trying to be an AKA?" Of course that wasn't true but I was still embarrased nonetheless. The second time (alumnae level) was not so much embarrasing for me as it was the other person. There had to be like a good 800 people at this rush and the lady that sat next to me (also an interestee) had to be like 50 something. Every time she wanted to ask me a question she addressed me as "future soror". I was so shocked the first time she said it but I couldn't say anything because I didn't want to disrespect her. So, I basically just start trying to ignore her and talk to the girl on my other side. And then when we had to play the unscramble game she kept asking me the answers and one time she was like, "these are those thrust thingys but I don't know them". There were members all over that place and I'm pretty sure someone heard her.
Ok, that's just my 2 cents. |
