Ok, am I the only one who has NO idea what a "winter" is?! Could someone please let me know!

Have you tried victoriassecret.com They have some very cute tops that are on sale. Some of them are conservative too.

Roughly, people with lighter coloring who look good in pale colors with yellow tints are springs, those with darker coloring who look good in darker colors with yellow tints are autumns (yea!), those with lighter coloring who look better in lighter colors without yellow in them are summers, and the people with darker features who look good in clear, bright colors are winters. I wonder if they have a website? It was always amazing to see the change a few shades could make in someone's appearance. |
Color Me Beautiful
There is a little thing on there that helps you figure out what color you are. I'm a spring. I actually learned that from my Clinique lady way back in the day - and carnation is right, it makes a big difference. |
Wahaha! Got Express covered. One of my new students walked in and said that she just started working there so I asked her to be looking out for brights for us. In the meantime, maybe if we wait a couple of weeks for fall colors to come in at the other stores, we'll have some luck. However...it's only 5 weeks until rush!

I'm a spring!

I tend to be a cynic about schemes like Color Me Beautiful. For example, my sister and I both have blue eyes, pale pale skin, and the same shade of blonde hair. Yet we can't wear any of the same colors (well, except maybe black). The difference is in our skin tones. CMB doesn't account for that.
If it works for you, by all means take its advice. But I don't think it's that hard to just look at yourself with a color on and and see if you look ill or great! |
I hear you!!

I did the "Color Me Beautiful" and I THINK I was a winter. Anyway-dark skin, dark eyes, dark brown (at one time) hair.
One color that really looks good on me is royal blue. I have to be very, very careful with red and need the undertone of blue in it. I'm kind of shocked at the lack of red since it IS a patriotic year AND July 4th and all. The only problem with red, for some-not all, is the need for a tad extra blusher. WHO mentioned turquoise? That is an AMAZING color on darker skin and with dark hair could really stand out. I always thought in terms of what colors looked good with a tan. I dug through Dillards and they have some cute necklines-What about a nautical or sports store? Our tennis shop has some things that you would find in a boutique. It's not a chain though. What fabric are you thinking of??? Eited to add- FuzzieAlum has a point. When I changed my hair color...SLIGHTLY...it changed the way colors look on me. A dress I wore PREdye was great...now I can't STAND it! |
I'm a spring now, but back in the day with my red hair, I totally was an autumn.
|
Interesting... I didn't fit into any of those categories... it would seem that if you don't fit in then you're a summer, but those are DEFINITELY not my colours!

I'm a definite winter. Years ago, I hosted a CMB party. It is really fascinating to watch how the different colors either perk you up or bring you down.
If you've never been to a party, this is what they do: They cover your clothes with a white sheet so the color of your clothes won't interfere. Then they pin swatches of material to each shoulder, one side is winter/summer and the other is autumn/spring. I remember that they pinned back our hair because it's more about skin tones than hair color (which can change). They start alternately flipping the swatches, and it was quite obvious for me that I was a winter. If it's not so obvious, I think you could wear colors from both (winter/summer would be one category and autumn/spring would be the other). You can also wear accent pieces of your "off" colors, like I could wear an orange belt, or even go so far as an orange skirt (khakis are a good example). As long as your season's colors are around your face, you're at your most flattering. |
carnation:
I think she should buy a tank/cardigan in red and one in yellow. Then she can wear the tank of one with the cardigan of the other, and switch the next day. What do you think?!?! ;) :D Oh, and apparently I am a summer? I don't know about that... |
Kathy,
LOL!!!! And for prefs she can wear that dress I wrote about earlier this year that has the red "owl"--actually, I said "cowl" and someone misread it... |
Porcelain skin, naturally wavy black hair, hazel eyes ... I got the Color Me Beautiful book back when it first came out. It was pretty easy to figure out what I was. And some seasons are just awful! Everything's (shudder) beige.
