Ah, thanks for that. I like traditional 'roots' country music; most of this new country stuff doesn't move me (Faith Hill? Shanu-uh Twain? Chickens, go back and listen to some Patsy Cline or Loretta Lynn and THEN we'll talk!) I think that's why I love the Dixie Chicks so much - you can feel the "country" in their music, and it's not just about twangy guitars and a pedal steel.

Hollywood country is more like it.. Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline were considered Nashville country back in the day, but now they're classified as "Americana" artists. Sacrilege! Thank goodness for KPIG radio online - otherwise I'd never get to hear this kind of stuff. Thanks for the tip about the other artists!
If you want some country with a twist, try to find something by Robert Randolph and the Family Band. They're the backing band for the Five Blind Boys of Alabama, and this guy.. I swear, he's the Jimi Hendrix of the pedal steel! They take tradiational gospel/blues/country and make it into something that you've never heard before. You can see video clips at Austin City Limits: http://www.pbs.org/klru/austin/artists/program430.html or you can view them at the Robert Randolph website: http://www.robertrandolph.net/look/index.html |
Thanks for the info. :) Lovin it.

That reminds me of when I used to live in the heart of Kansas! I bet KPIG reads the hog and corn futures after the Chicago Mercanitle closes too! Paul Harvey anyone??? GooooOOD DAY! But seriously, I have to admit that I'm waiting for Macy Gray's CD to come out next month. She's just so kick-y and the single that got radio play out here about two months ago just sounds like a lot of fun. |
Has anyone here listened to the Matrix reloaded soundtrack, it's GREAT!!!! It gets you really pumped up to do pretty much EVERYTHING!
