Even Though I lived i my Early years in Cleveland, I enjoy living in the Suburbs. Shaker Heights, Where I reside, is one of the top Integrated Communities in America. We pretty much have everything: A top notch school system, Two Shopping towne centers, Two Libraries, Public Transportation ( Bus and Train), Restaurants,bars, and Best of all, A city that has a low Crime Rate.

I think you can have the best of both worlds by living in the suburbs and work and have fun in the city.

I'm not particularly fond of suburbs. I live in one now, but it borders Chicago and is one of only two suburbs in this area in which I'd ever want to live.

Should I ever have a child (eeek) I would probably want to raise him/her either in a city or in a smallish town that is it's own town and not a suburb, but that isn't too boonies. I'd love to find some time of co-housing situation in the mountains. That would be awesome.

although I am moving to philly when I graduate, I wouldn't want to raise a family there, i see it as just a life experience for myself...i plan on staying in good old bucks county...my town has about 100,000 people and is twenty minutes from downtown philly and an hour from dowtown manhatten, perfect if u ask me

My mom thinks Jacksonville is the armpit of the world... I went to Silverdale Elementary and my sister went to White Oak HS when we lived there... I haven't been back in years, so I'm interested to know what it's like!

I live smack dab in the middle of Illinois. 2 hours from both St Louis and Chicago, so if we ever want to go to a city it's easily acheivable and my town is well over 120,000 and is a great size! It's small enough to know a lot of people, but has everything like a big city. I'd love to raise kids here, but I want to experience a new place!

I'd have to say the suburbs - I grew up in the burbs, it was awesome. My neighborhood was really really safe, you could ride your bikes late at night or hang out with friends, and you didn't have to worry about anything happening. My town was medium-sized (60,000), so it was big enough not to feel claustrophobic, but small enough that we knew a lot of people and it could feel really homey.

I also got to grow up in a house my dad built himself (with a bunch of friends). I can't imagine growing up in an apartment or anything like that. Although my family is by no means wealthy, in my town my parents were able to afford to build a house in a nice neighborhood to raise their kids. In a city, it would take too much money.

I love the city, don't get me wrong - hell, I decided to stay in Boston after graduation, and would love to go to another city (New York, San Francisco) later. But to raise kids, I'd still have to go with the suburbs.

I'm with aephi alum. I couldn't live out in the middle of nowhere, but I couldn't live in downtown Chicago either. I think the burbs are a great place to raise a family. There's enough to do out there and if you want something exciting, go into the city.
