SNL was at its best in the early years. Eddie Murphy (was he a regular) was funny as Buckwheat.

Yes he was. Link to allthe cast members and see how your fav is rated. http://www.rateitall.com/topic.asp?I...1-96E63EE95662

I watch those when they're on E!. I don't know what they did back then that made them so much better. But they were uh better. Steve Martin was a regular also. Pretty much anything with him in it is classic.

first 5 years: John Belushi

second 5: Martin Short (and Tim Kazurinsky's bits on the news)

third 5: Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, Chris Farley

after that - ehh. No one really stands out in the way that if they are in a sketch, you know they will kick ass no matter how bad the sketch is.

I guess my favorites would have to be John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd (I am not sure if I got the spelling right), Martin Short, Eddie Murphy and Julia Sweeney!

This got me thinking. I believe I got "turned off" on SNL when the character "Pat"appeared. Also didn't care too much for the girl
(Mary Margaret???) who smelled her arm pits! I totally missed Anthony Michael Hall and Robert Downey Jr. Does ANYone remember the year they were on? I must have been "Birthin' babies... or practicing.":o

Cheerleaders were funny, but miss "hamburger, hamburger", landshark, Curtain and Aykroyd-"Jane, you ignorant slut."
Garret Morris with the recap for the hard of hearing and of course Rosann Rosana Dana............Mr. Bill!

SNL post Mike Myers/ Dana Carvey/ Phil Hartman / Jan Hooks just plain sucks. They have lowered themselves to the most boring, innap. unfunny humor. The current cast is a bunch of go nowheres who think shouting and being annoying is funny.

The current state of SNL can be traced back to the mid ninties, when Mike Mckeon and Chris Elliot were on it I believe. John Clease and the other guy did the EXACT skit word for word from the Monty Python franchise about the guy who wanted to return a dead parrot. It's a legendary skit that's compared to the "Who's on first" skit. NO ONE in the audience laughed, and there was barely any applause. That's when I realized that their brand of "comedy" catered to the lowest common denominator.

Anyway,

1) Phil Hartman
2) Dana Carvey (sad to see what's happened to him)
3) Chris Farley

"Chee-burger, chee-burger, no Coke, Pepsi!"

Roseanne Roseannadanna: "It's always something..." (Based on a real life Noo Yawk columnist that sounded and looked the same and whose name escapes me at the moment.)

Those were the good old days of SNL... hardly even watch it anymore. :(

Bless your heart AlphaSigOU!!! I KNEW it didn't sound quite right!
"Chee-burger, chee-burger, no Coke, Pepsi"

The old memory is slipping!!!:D

Honestly can't remember the last time I watched it. I probably fell
asleep!DeltaSigStan-. John Clease and the other guy did the EXACT skit word for word from the Monty Python franchise about the guy who wanted to return a dead parrot.
Now that's just plain sad!!! I LOVED Monty Pithon esp. the relay races!
