delta beta checking in
My fav our house does is smile pep, but during rush we always do "Follow Me" I believe it's by John Denver and goes like this
Follow me where i go, what i do and who I know. Make it a part of you to be a part of me, follow me up and down all the way and all around, take my hand and say you'll follow me. It's long been on my mind you know it's been a long, long time, I'll try to find the way that I can make you understand the way I feel about you and just how much I need you to be there where I can talk to you when there's no one else around. See I'd like to share my life with you, and show you things i've seen places where i'm going to and places where i've been, to have you there beside me and never be alone and all the time that you're with me, we will be at home Follow me where i go, what i do and who I know. Make it a part of you to be a part of me, follow me up and down all the way and all around, take my hand and say you'll follow me. |
a little lambda gamma action for ya
our chant:
(first we'd stick our hands in the middle, like you would for a cheer if you played on a soccer team, and start out screaming -- "aaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH....") highty tighty God almighty who the hell are YOU? flim flam hot damn I'M A PHI MU! we did "With a P, With a P," but we did it like this: With a P, with a P, with a P-H-I With a M, with a Mu, with a Mu, Phi Mu With a P-H-I-Phi-Mu-Phi-Mu, Phi Mu, that's us! Like it, like it, like it, love it, love it you and I, I'm a Phi Mu stay a Phi Mu Phi Mu till I die. We will hold our Phi Mu banner high! (repeat) also: We are the Phi Mus, proud of it too We are the best girls at VCU Phi Mu, Phi Mu fraternity We're the best in our history da da-da da da da-da-da." |

My chapter sings this one! :) We also sing Linger during recruitment, With a P, La-Di-Da, and some others for recruitment. My personal favorite is Got Along, we use it for pref day and then we always sing it just informally too and speed it up. The way we sing it is: Got along without you before I met you but I can't live without you now Phi Mu's the best in every way, just let me tell you how We've got the looks We've got the poise We're full of laughter And full of joys We've got that smile That winning way I vow with you I'll always stay.... I love Phi Mu my sisters true, oooooh I love Phi Mu I love Phi Mu my sisters true, oooooh I love Phi Mu I looooooove Phi Mu My sisssssssters true Oooooohh I love Phi Mu! (snap, snap) When we had a lot of nationals people here they tried to teach us Phi Mu Lady, and we learned it but my chapter HATES HATES HATES that song. :) |
Fab~ we call your "got along" "i love phi mu"....i had no idea chapters had different names for the same songs.

Hi Girls! Thought I'd throw some more songs in here!
We don't know Phi Mu Castle or Picture a Girl at PhiKappa, though I learned them at Convention last year and they bring tears to my eyes! I love them!!! We sing Sisters so friggin' much it gets on my nerves, though! And let's see...for our chant to open meetings we use: Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! 5 4 3 2 Give a cheer for Phi Mu! Love, honor, truth and fun That's what makes us number1 Phiiiiiiiiiiii MU! ~On Serenading Night we sing Pass It On (We use that for candle passings too) It only takes a spark to get a fire going And soon all those around will warm up to it's glowing. That's how it is with Phi Mu love, Once you've experienced it. We spread our love to everyone We want to pass it on. (It goes on from there...) ~We also do Badoom Badoom (with the two parts) during Rush. And Won't you Come Back. But two sisters in my chapter came up with a chant to the Coca-Cola Song that I love: The sun will always shine, The birds will always sing Wherever there is fun There's always the real thing We love our Phi Mu sisters They're always the ones. Wherever there is fun There's always Phi Mu Sisters Doo doo doo doo doo Always Phi Mu sisters! ~Then the pledge class this year came up with this one, to the tune of Land of 1000 Dances: We're not number 5, not number 4, number 3, number 2 We're number 1! Why are you so blue? Is it because you're not Phi Mu?? We're number 1!!! ~Then there's always the Garter song that we're very proud of ;-) ~And we do P-P-P to the H.... ~And With a P with a P with a P-H-I ~And a call and response: I don't know but I've been told (repeat as a response) Phi Mu Girls are as good as gold I don't know but it's been said Phi Mu girls are a step ahead Sound Off (1, 2) Sound Off (3, 4) Bring it on down! (P H I M U...PHI MU!!!) And then there's this one that one sister use dto do..I wish there were more words but it's awesome, another call/response Ah-dee-ayee, Ah-dee-oohh (repeat as response) Wiggly, wiggly, waddlie oh (repeat) Raise your heads up to the sky (repeat) 'Cause Phi Mu is walkin' by (repeat) [We always liked doing that one as we walked by frat houses ;-)] ~~If anyone wants more lyrics or tunes, just PM me!!! |
......... oh, wow, I'd forgotten "Pass it On..." makes me cry just thinking about it......
|
Oooh, that John Denver song reminded me...We added two "real" songs to our Pref my senior year....One was from Hope Floats called "To Get Me to You" by Lila McCann and it was SOOOO beautiful.
Well I, I still can remember times When the night seemed to surround me I was sure the sun would never shine on me And I, I thought it my destiny To walk this world alone But now you're here with me Now you're here with me And I don't regret the rain Or the nights I felt the pain Or the tears I had to cry Some of those times along the way Every road I had to take Every time my heart would break It was just something that I had to get through To get me to you To get me to you Well I, I still can recall the days When I had no love around me Makes me glad for every day I have with you And I, I look in your eyes and know I'm right where I belong And I belong with you Always belonged with you And I don't regret the rain Or the nights I felt the pain Or the tears I had to cry Some of those times along the way Every road I had to take Every time my heart would break It was just something that I had to go through To get me to you To get me to you And if I could I wouldn't change a thing Wouldn't change a thing baby Because your love was waiting there for me Waiting there for me baby And I don't regret the rain Or the nights I felt the pain Or the tears I had to cry Some of those times along the way Every road I had to take Every time my heart would break It was just something that I had to get through To get me to you To get me to you This song makes me cry, because it really hits the nail on the head for our chapter for how much we have to work to stay afloat, but it's all worth it in the end. And the other one we added was by a contemporary Christian singer....Geoff Moore and the Distance. Sorry, had a brain fart there. And it's called If You Could See What I See. There were only 2 references to G-d in it, but those can easily be tweaked to say Phi Mu or "my sisters" or something. All of my life I have dreamed that somehow love would find me. Now I can't believe you're stan-ding here. If beauty is all in the eye of the beholder then I wish you could see the love for you that lives in me. And you would know you have my heart, If you could see what I see; That a trea-sure's what you are, if you could see what I see; Created to be the only one for me; If you could see what I see I know there are days when you feel so much less than ideal Wondering what I see in you It's all of the light and the grace Your belief in me drives me to say That I promise you a faithful love forever true And you would know you have my heart, If you could see what I see; That a treasure's what you are, if you could see what I see; Created to be the only one for me; If you could see what I see Then you'd understand why I fall down to my knees; And I pray my love will be worthy of The One who gave His life so our love could be. And you would know you have my heart, If you could see what I see; That a treasure's what you are, If you could see what I see; You're created to be the perfect one for me If you could see what I see If beauty is all in the eye of the beholder then I Am beholding true beauty. Sorry, I was just reminded of those songs and wanted to share. |
That sounds like a really sweet song... although I'm curious as to why you feel the need to censor the word God... lol

I always loved doing our chant. We do it right after initiation when it's dark, and it scares the mess out of the new Sisters. We start with our fists in the air and bring them down at the end of "AHHHHH!" Here it is:
AHHHHHHHHH! We're the best That's no lie We'll be Sisters 'till we die Forget the rest Try the best PHI MU!! HELL YEAH!! (Fist up on "Phi" down on "Mu", same with "Hell Yeah") I just always have loved that! And I also love Linger and the Sister song our chapter uses. |
Censored a) to make it be about Phi Mu b) becasue we didn't want to have a religious slant to it.
|
we all need to hang out at convention and chant until our heads fall off.
I like to chant. |
From what ive read we've combined two of the chants on here...
AHHHHHHHHH! We're the best That's no lie We'll be Sisters 'till we die Forget the rest Join the best Kappa Pi 5,4,3,2 Give a cheer for Phi Mu P-H-I P-H-I P-H-I M-U Phhhiiiii Mu Ohhhhh Yeah (hell yeah if we are feeling fiesty) i was wondering, and I hope this isn't like confidential info about recruitment, but what kind of songs do yall sing for skit night.... if yall sing at all that is..... |
it's not confidential. My understanding is pretty much nothing until pref night is confidential -- and even that isn't strictly so, because after all, you are sharing it with women who are not pledged to Phi Mu.
all the same, we don't seem to discuss pref night specifics on this board, by some sort of mutual unspoken agreement. |
ha. And to actually answer the question...
my collegiate chapter doesn't have skit night. The five sororities on campus (ASA, Tri Sigma, AGD, Phi Sigma Sigma, and us) are DRASTICALLY different. ASA has the only house. Tri Sig and Phi Mu vie for most girls each year (until the last 2 yrs Tri Sig had 'em; the last two we've had 'em.) AGD is smack in the middle on basically everything. Phi Sigma Sigma was down to 4 girls at one point. Anyway, point being, in the interest of making things more "fair," panhellenic canceled any use of skits, dropped the monetary cap to something incredibly low, and limited the use of chants, since the smaller groups aren't as impressive in the volume department. |
