I was raised an only child, my closest siblings are 10 years older than me. (I have a total of 4 older sisters)
1.Did you like it? Umm...yes-ish. It sucked living out in the country with no one to play with :( 2.Were you lonely? Yes! 3.Were you spoiled? Hehe..hell yeah. Who else were they going to spend their money on? 5.How did you adjust in the real world (dorms, roomates, lodging when out of town)? I thrive being around people, so I take naturally to it somehow, lol! |
Re: Only children and only girl/boy shout out
I am an only child, in addition to being the only person my age in my extended family (my closest cousins are ten years younger!)
Did you like it? I guess. I can't imagine it being any other way, so I can't say. Were you lonely? At times, but like most only children, I was also really good at occupying myself. I went through a phase where I really wanted a brother or a sister, but eventually I got over it. Were you spoiled? I hate this question. What does "spoiled" mean?? Was a disciplined when I did wrong? Yes. Were my parents strict? Oh yes. Did I get everything I wanted? Heck no. Did I get a lot of stuff, compared to some of my friends? Yes. How did you adjust in the real world (dorms, roomates, lodging when out of town)? Not a problem at all...in fact, I've been known to go overboard with generosity :D I do cherish my alone time, though. |

1.) I love it:D 2.) Only up to College. 3.) Not really. I only ask for things I really needed/want. 5.) I have no problem. |
I am an only. I liked it at the time but now that I am older and have lost a parent I really really wish I had a sibling. Back in the day the only real reason I yearned for siblings was to be like everyone else. Am I spoiled? Yes, rotten, but I don't think it would have been any different had there been more. There just would have been 2 or 3 spoiled brats instead of 1. Having been an only, though, I appreciate the value of a big family and I refused to have an only child myself. I have two and I really want one more.

Only Child here
1. hated it sometimes, loved it other times. I always dreamed of an older brother.
2. Lonely, sometimes. I learned to be self-sufficient. But the "sisterhood" of a sorority really appealed to me. 3. Spoiled, oh yah. I'm still daddy's girl (even though I'm 33). But, I never did anything to get in a lot of trouble so they didn't have a real reason to say no. Now I only ask for things I really want. 4. I adjusted fine in college with my roommate. Now in the real world though, I've lived alone since 1994. I was always the grandson and grand daughter growing up (and son/daughter) so I probably experienced a lot more than I might have if I had had siblings. I would never want to have an only child. |
