I just wanted to say that I agree with what my fellow GC chatters have said. I was a recruitment counselor during last year's recruitment, and all of this advice is very sound. The whole GPA things is a touchy thing. It really is going to depend on how cut throat the recruitment is at your school. It's sad to say, but sometimes there are so many great girls going through recruitment that GPA cuts have to be made. Only a certain number of girls can come back each day. I agree that you should mention it to the girl that rushes you on the first day. I will tell you what I told my group. Go with what feels right to you. If you think you'd feel akward (sp?) just approaching the sorority girl and spilling your history then don't. Just make sure to emphasize everything else you're involved in, and somehow try to make yourself stand out somehow.

with my gpa being 2.65 and an org's min. gpa being 2.5. will i still be okay, or will the org say, 'oh she is too close to the min. so we should cut her.
ooh i hit 500 posts. go me;) |
GPA is always an important factor for chapters, as they have to maintain their own group GPA with their HQs. Also, as sorority women, we want to have girls who can learn to deal with the time constraints of sorority, work, school, etc. If a PNM comes in very close on GPA, someone may ask her why if they really like her or she makes a great impression. If she doesn't, she would probably get cut. It sucks, but unfortunately, standards and rules are what we have to follow. smiley21, best of luck to you!! Make sure you find out what minimum GPA you need to go through recruitment, and make sure you meet that. Then, let the chips fall where they may, or wait a semester and bring your grades up a bit more! :)

I know...what I meant was to add an easy class as an elective to help bring it up a little more...something like jogging or aerobics.

Best of luck with your classes smiley!!! We're all rootin' for you!!! |
Aside from reiterating what everyone else has already said regarding grades, I think the important thing to remember is to be open to ALL of the groups on your campus. It may seem callous, but this is true: By choosing one house prior to recruitment that you are "set" on, it can set you up for a disappointment. (Note that I said can and not will here, I don't want anyone to think that I am being mean, just truthful.) Not everyone gets their first choice for one reason or another, whether it be grades or something else entirely, and people's feelings about chapters may change once recruitment starts. As old and reused as this sounds, some chapters may surprise you, especially the ones you don't know a lot about.:)

this has nothing to do with having my heart set on one house. i just want to make the best of every opportunity. i know that wherever i go is where i am meant to me. i am open to whatever org. is gracious enough to call me a member. i will make them proud.:)

PE classes always bump up the GPA a little :)
