1) Spanish/Hispanic
Giving you the benefit of the doubt here that this is what you meant- how many real Spaniards would there be in this country?
Spanish people come from Spain.
Spanish is a language.
Spanish is not an ethnic group)

2) Asians

3) Whites

4) Blacks

Many in certain areas of the country this could be true (parts of Cali, Texas, Ariz perhaps???? i don't know. i'm not going to go check the census).

Funny, I am sending in my tape for Real World. LMAO I dont know WHY I am auditioning, cause it would be hard for me to put my whole world out there like that. I am just curious how far I would make it in the audition process. Again.

Actually, it might be a bit more complicated than this.
The casts may be in proportion to the viewer demographics--which may or may not reflect the US population as a whole.

You've probably got producers picking cast members based on what they think the viewers will relate to plus what will be considered novel and therefore interesting enough to react to. They may be doing either direct marketing surveys via mail, email, or phone, or haunting the chat boards on MTV.com or other avenues through the website.

eMpTV is all about the marketing department and basic demographic numbers. I don't think any of those mental midgets even knows what the US Census is. :p

actually, the last season in las vegas, 1/2 the cast was black.

um, why does it have to be about being just white or just black?? I'm just asking.... I am neither of those and that comment made me a lil uncomfortable. I'm sorry, but there are other ethnicities in this country. We are not a white and black world.

I wasn't aware that the Real World chose their cast based on race. And from what I see on the show, they have had non whites and non blacks on the show.

As someone who has been in the audition process before, believe me.....it aint the color of your skin. Its all about how much you can get the ratings to go up, if you'll have a following, and if you can bring good "story" lines to the show. Eh, it would help if you had big knockers too....

i don't want to be on RW or RR. . .i want something else but in the description. . .it says that you have to be in the NY Tri-state area. . .

Maybe you can have the angle of being obessed with the Great Arya and by being in this show, u can send the message to the world of your love and devotion to the Great Arya.

Obviously MTV is ALL about the drama, not the politics, because there was no gay person on vegas. And, if I'm being honest, I think they look for people who are trying to be a PERSON, not a black person, or a white person, or a gay person, just A person. I am a hispanic living in a predominantly hispanic area (southern AZ) and I don't speak spanish, I don't pronounce my last name "correctly" and I don't hang out with anybody who is super out there with their heritage. Not that I think you shouldn't be! People who are proud of their background have every right to be, and I admire them for having that connection. But I don't think people who see themselves as more than an ethnicity should be criticized, as well as the producers of reality TV shouldn't be criticized for not putting more diverse casts on their shows. They are looking for interesting people, not trying to show the diversity of the country. They dont have enough spots on the cast to have every race in the country represented. There will always be someone left out and upset.

As far as the whole tri-state area thing, for shows like RR/RW they hold auditions all over the country, and ask that you send in video (they even held auditions in my little Tucson) but for shows that don't have the history/following of the bigger ones, they want auditioners that can come to the studio for call backs a lot more conviently, since they probably don't have a big budget.
