Can I second the bug repellent idea!!!!!

pnms have to wait outside about 6 or 7 minutes between parties (small greek row, not much walking) while the sisters reset for the next group and the bugs are terrible!!!! we were all scratching and swating. The Rho Chis even put on sweaters and jeans halfway through round two (they have to wait outside the houses ALL NIGHT) because they were getting eaten. A little skin-so-soft could have improved that situation greatly!!!!

WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Rushees, heed her advice! There are always a few rushees who stand out like that in a baaaad way and are remembered 30 years later at sorority reunions. (I remembered one in that thread "Weird Rush Stories"--the one we called Batwoman.)

One other thought, especially if you are wearing something with spaghetti straps....
Make sure that you have a friend "spot check" you in various positions. It may look great when you are standing bolt upright, but at our preference last year there was a young lady leaning forward to talk to the Pi Phi rushing her, which was great "I'm very interested in what you are saying" body language, except....that her spaghetti-strap top pooched forward enough that the entire room could see down to her navel!!! ("Hey, nice bra!) Not the look she was going for, I'm sure. Same thing goes with low rise pants -- make sure that you won't be giving the old plummer's butt view to the whole room when you sit down, especially given that you might have to sit on the floor in front of other people for skits, ect.

of course I'm from Cali so it's usually not that hot.. but I spent this past summer in upstate NY where it was liek 90 degrees and humid all this past summer... and I too have semi-long THICK THICK HAIR... If you want to leave it down as others have suggested...I would say bring something to hold it back( loosely so it won't leave a crimp) at least while you are outside waiting or walking from house to house because leaving your hair down I think makes it feel like it's 15 degrees hotter out than it is when it's sticking to the back of your neck.

Coffee filters are a great way to get rid of excess "glow" between houses! During our August recruitment, Pi Chis always had a supply on-hand to help out the PNMs. The Florida heat and humidity is unforgiving and these are a cheap way to blot off excess oil.

don't forget your sunscreen! I don't know what LSU greek row is like... but if you are walking long distances between houses in the hot sun, you are asking for a killer sun burn, esp if you are going in summer clothes.

on the eyelid thing: clinique had a lil mini foundation made for the eyes called "touch base" and supposedly absorbs oil on the eyelid. i used to use it religiously but found that i couldn't afford it anymore. :D

Target has really REALLY cute sundresses. I own a few. They are light guazy materials.

And keep the makeup natural. Don't experiment with make up you bought specifically for recruitment if you have never used it before. Stick to your basics or the stuff you already own or know how to use.

Ha ha ha ha.. plummer's butt. Our rush chair made us bend over for her so she could make sure we would not have plummer's butt during philanthropy night. Funny, but effective.

This may sound a little odd, but....
I used to work in the theater and dance world fairly frequently, and we had one or two tricks for keeping makeup on while sweaty. There is this stuff you can get through theatrical makeup magazines called spirit gum spray. Think hairspray meets glue. We usually used it to hold on fake mustaches or prostetic face parts but it also will keep your make up in place all day long if you spritz it on after your makeup is set. (Baby oil gets it off later)

If this is hard to find, Aqua Net extra hold hairspray (yes the stuff your grandmother uses) works equally well and is probably less exspensive.

Finally, if you have dark hair, choose clear mascara to accent and hold your eyelash curl without leaving a goopy raccoon eye once it gets clammy.

I have very thick wavy hair that gets unbelievably frizzy in all kinds of weather. However, there is a straightening iron with ceramic hot plates called the "chi" iron that is absolutely amazing. Nothing has ever so effectively straightened my hair. It costs around 150 dollars but it is worth every penny.

as a curly girl in a humid enviorment I am very curious about this hair iron. i have a regular metal plate flat iron that works pretty well on my hair...as long as it's not about to rain or the humidity is above 40 percent (a common occurance). Does this iron hold up any better? I would love to straighten my hair more, but the weather seems to make it a waste of time. if this iron can withstand a humid day, than I'm getting one!!!!

Even with the almost 80% humidity of Houston, Texas, the chi iron made me look like I had naturally straight hair. You can only buy it through salons (although I think I have seen some on Ebay) The ceramic plates make a big difference too. Metal plates strip your hair, but ceramic plates don't interfere with your natural hair's oils, so it makes your hair look shiny too. THe chi iron gets the hottest of any ceramic plate iron and that is why it works so well.

Sorry to sound like a commercial, but for those ladies with the firzz, this is truly a great secret!

I can relate Chloe...I wish I had one of these when I lived in Houston! I live in Georgia now where it's not nearly as hot and sticky as Houston. I have straight hair but it has a tendency to frizz a little. I bought a ceramic iron for $40 at Sally's and I LOVE it! If you want Jennifer Aniston's hair this is the secret! I've heard about the Chi iron. And yes, they can be found on eBay. I was able to go with something less expensive because, as I said, my hair is basically straight.

our manager went and had something done called Japanese Straightening. It is not inexpensive, but darn near permanent. You want Jan Brady locks? This is the technique but you may have to go to a special salon.

OK so my aunt had that japanese straightening done, and you are right. It isn't cheap, it cost her a little over a thousand dollars bc her hair is so thick (as most curly hair peoples hair is). But it looks awesome
