So, I am the soon-to-be Sisterhood Development Chair (formerly known as MOC). Any one have any good ideas? What worked for your chapters and your new ladies? Send me lots of ideas!!!! The more the merrier.

Im a past MOC who first incoperated the new reflections... I could help you if you would like... things were different (better) then... ;)

Throw them my way! I've been active for a long time and I think it's going to be hard because incoming freshman are a lot younger than me. We'll be hitting up those older gals more hopefully!

Thanks James. You're the best.

Moc V. Sdc

Ok does anyone really see WHY threy changed MOC to SDC I mean I know that pledgemom or pledgemaster wouldn't be the best thing to call the position.... but really what was wrong with MOC anyone at convention and know their argument for changing it ??

phisigduchesscv 03-28-2003 03:25 AM

I can't remember what is was exactly but the reason was something along the lines of Membership Orientation Chairperson seemed to indicate she was to teach the new members and that was it.

Sisterhood Development Chair is there throughout the actives career to help each sister to develop in the sorority and personally. She is to make sure we always remember what we learned as new members

now how come i didn't know that

New Member Program

What do you all do for your new member programs? Im just curious because ours has changed drastically over the past few years...

phisigcloud 05-05-2003 06:39 PM

When I was MOC all I did was go over the history with new members and active sisters during meetings. It wasn't that succesful. OUr new MOC or SDC, have made New Member meetings in which they go over the history. Also she makes special picnics, movie nights, etc for new members and actives to get to know each other better.

Hope that helps.

MooseGirl 05-05-2003 10:56 PM

i'm waiting til next year to answer this question...i haven't been around new members in 2 years or so, so my knowledge is same as yours...I think its cool they changed MOC to SDC, redirecting the focus a bit, but I have yet to see how it works out..

Haha, I can just see me walking into chapter meeting september and quizzing the girls! but nah, that's too cruel....

I do think there needs to be a balance between learning history and appreciating our values/bonding....sometimes one or the other gets left out...

Okay, this is slightly off topic..but it has to do with the position of SDC. One of the girls from the chapter I advise (risk management advisor) really needs some ideas of what she should do with the new girls in the Fall. I have helped her come up with some ideas, but I am asking my sisters on GC to help me even more. We decided that right before initiation, the new members will have a chance to make their first set of letters. Also, she is planning an event with the Risk Management chair to teach our drug and alcohol policies. Does anyone have any good advice on what else to do? This is new territory for me because the position was MOC when I graduated. Thanks ladies! :D

We do red rose week... it's really really popular and everyone enjoys it... we do serenade and saphire sis apreciation night where the littles take the big sis's out or my semester they cooked us a spaghetti dinner and decorated really nice and had gifts on the table and everything when we got there after we went serenading, that's on on Tuesday (Monday is our meeting) WEdnsday we have a bonfire where we do a little ceremony (if you want it, E mail or PM me) Bonfire may be hard if you're not at the beach, but you can do the ceremony inside if you want... Thursday we have study night (we play like a jeopardy game with all the stuff they need to learn and sing all the songs with all of them to get them ready for initiaton which is usually that Saturday Friday night is off

Usually, we don't let our new members have letters until they are fully initiated members of Phi Sig. Are we the only chapter???
