I live in VA which is the most south you can get (cuz its the capital, thats why) and um....its soda.

Up here in Cleveland, it's definitely pop.

Fun story: i was in NYC this past winter break and getting lunch one day when the guy was taking my order, i asked for pop, and the guy looked at me like i had three heads. Then remembering that I wasn't in Ohio anymore, I asked for a pepsi.

Hate being in Atlanta and in a restuarant where, " I'll have a Coke" and the the reply is "Is Pepsi okay??":p :p THIS IS ATLANTA!

No, I'll have the SWEET tea!;) :D

DeltAlum 03-06-2003 11:00 PM

Growing up in Ohio, I drank pop. (And beer). Later, moving to the East Coast, I drank soda. (And beer) In Wisconsin, I continued drinking soda. (And beer) In Colorado, we drink soda or pop or simply use the trade name -- "I'll have a ginger ale." (And a beer)

i say 'soda' because i'm from texas
but i say 'soda water' too because i'm from texas
so, it's either soda or soda water

CutiePie2000 03-06-2003 11:45 PM

In Canada, it's "pop".

Cluey 03-07-2003 12:00 AM

I always say Coke!

And, I am like you, AGDLynn! If I ask for a Coke and they say is Pepsi ok, I immediately change my drink choice. Sweet tea is usually my back up. What makes me really upset is when I am somewhere and they have neither!

server: what kinda coke you want?
southerner: Dr. Pepper

That makes no sense!!!
It'd be like saying, "what kind of Budweiser do you want?" "oh, I'll have a Coors" it just doesn't work that way!

My sentiments exactly!

My family is from New York, so it has always been SODA for me. :)

In California it's Soda......

No one asks "What kind of coke would you like?" It's always what kind of SODA would you like?

I lived in Arizona for eight years and it's the same thing as California...SODA.:)

Everything in Oklahoma is a Coke.. If it's a large size you can even call it a "Big 'ol" coke.

I prefer soda. Or like James, I often refer to it as "diet something," as in

"Do you want anything to drink?"
"Just grab me a diet something."

hey I am from Wisconsin and call it soda, its more of where in Wisconsin you live, more towards Minnesota say pop and elsewhere say soda

doubleblue&gold 03-07-2003 03:06 AM

They're ALL soft drinks!

Personally, I'm a Diet Cokeaholic!

Actually all my friends around LA County and down into Northern Orange County all call it coke. Maybe it's regional in California as to whether its coke, soda, or pop.

As for when I ask for a coke and the waitress says they carry Pepsi, my answer is "All the Better, I'll have a Pepsi"

SATX*APhi 03-07-2003 03:20 AM

Down here everybody says "coke" and up until a couple of years ago, I always said "coke" as well. I have no idea why, but one day I started saying "soda" and never stopped.
