Badges
I have a badge from IHQ that was returned when an older member passed away. The badge is paper-thin from almost seventy years of wear, and the family wanted it to go to someone who would wear it proudly. I try to honor that request and wear it almost daily with appropriate clothes.
I am an Alum. I dress for work. I am not ashamed of my affiliation. As an Alum Initiate, my affilitation to AOII is very important to me. I understand that others have different feelings. This is just my way to honor the organization and the member that went on before me. Roses, AOIISilver |
Once I finally get my badge (cf, all of my AI threads) you won't be able to tear it off of me.
If "wearing a pin" is an issue, women can sometimes finds pendants designed to attach to the clasp on the back--then it's a pendant. No new news yet, folks. Still waiting..... Adrienne (PNAM-2003) |
excited about badges
As an alum, I, too, find it hard to find "appropriate" times to wear my badge. Anytime I'm dressed up for church (I often perform at churches around town) I try to wear it. But that's really it. I dress up for work, but I deal DIRECTLY with the public, and in my position I don't feel it's appopriate. If I were in an office, I would likely feel differently.
My other problem is that our badges are all yellow gold, and I *never* wear yellow gold.. always white gold and/or silver. And I don't like to "mix" the two. So I consulted with my national council.. and they OK'd me (and anyone) getting a white gold badge! :D I just ordered it yesterday & have to wait a painful 6 weeks, but I'll be wearing that EVERY chance I get! AOII silver- I think that's awesome that you have that old badge from the alumnae. It sounds like it went to the perfect person! |
I wore mine under my wedding dress against my heart.
I'm lucky, as a chapter adviser, I have many opportunities to wear my badge! |
I'm the only one who pretty much wear my letters everyday to school even though I have classes on tuesdays and thursdays. I wear my badge on numeorus occassions, only when it's appropiate.:D

We are required to wear our pins to class on the first Monday of every month, and to wear something with our letters or name on it on the other three Mondays. However, I have so many Pi Phi sweatshirts and t-shirts that I find myself wearing them almost every day! :) It is difficult to wear my pin more often, though, since we must be in "pin attire", which is defined as "khakis or nicer". Dressing up every day is just not easy to do! :)

I love the idea of wearing it under your wedding dress!

We have one day a week during our pledge period where the entire sisterhood either wears letters or our badge. Whenever we perform, we wear our badges proudly. Also, on the 29th of each month, our chapter day, we dress up in colours and wear our badge. SAI letters are all over the SU campus. We have hats and jackets and keychains and car stickers, it's crazy! I know I proudly wear my SAI cap whenever I'm going around town. I love my letters and my badge; I will use any excuse to wear them when appropriate!

my badge was pinned to my bouqet when I got married :) yeah and my Sis-mom was my maid of honor and about half my pledge class were my bridesmaids.....oh did I mention the red and buff roses? yeah anyway...
I love wearing my badge. Unfortunately scrubs aren't considered badge attire or else I would wear it to work too! I'm in the process of attaining a vintage badge from IHQ to have set into a ring so I can show my AGD pride without a lavalier or letter shirt |
"Have TO???"
One theme that has reoccurred in this discussion is the idea of "have to" (ie, we have to wear it every other Monday, etc). As a chapter we would make it a suggestion that all sisters wear their badge on certain dates but nothing happened if you didn't. Every member of our chapter chose to wear her badge on that day. The only "have to" dates we had were ritual related times. Wearing your badge is a thing of honor. I hope that all Greeks feel the same. As an Alumna member, I try to wear my badge often. I do not wear it every day because it is not to be worn as another piece of jewelry. However, I am getting a ring that allows you to permanently affix a badge so that I can wear it most days (I have purchased a separate badge to put in the ring so I still have my pin that I was initiated with to wear as a badge).
