According to jewelry sellers I'm a bad boyfriend for not buying diamonds on V-Day...

I'd be a bad husband for not buying them on my 25th anniversary...

I think there's now a sponsoring industry for every wedding anniversary:rolleyes:

Sure it's a saint's day almost EVERY day is a saint's day.

I am going out to celebrate my singleness tonight! Wahoo! :)

My boyfriend and I don't celebrate Valentine's day. I actually brought it up as our first V-day was approaching, and he was kind of surprised, but relieved. We have so many holidays grouped together (his birthday in October, mine in November, then Christmas, then our anniversary in March) that it makes sense to skip this one. Plus, I think it's a bad day all around because people who have significant others feel pressured to do something spectacular, and people who are single get depressed because they don't have someone to celebrate with. So, it pretty much makes everyone end up feeling bad, thereby negating the reason for the holiday.

Seriously. My best friend and I are hitting the town dressed to the nines tonight. Most girls I know who don't have a guy on V-Day get all annoyed and do nothing. Most guys don't give a rat's ass. So we're going to go out, look hot, and hopefully meet some new people. To me, "couple" holidays are an opportunity to dress up really nicely (because a lot of people are since they're on "special" dates) and work it like you just can't do in black pants and a halter. There's something about wearing a nice dress that gives me 500 times more confidence, but I'm not about to wear one any old day.

My boy and I usually make a big deal out of things with little cute notes and stuff...I used to be really uptight about us having plans, but I've really mellowed out as I've gotten older.

He's got the double whammy in Feb b/c my birthday is one week after v-day; I get itn Sept - his birthday is 9 days after our anniversary. So, we celebrate everything to keep it even ;)

Its, at its heart, a Hallmark holiday. I try to give *all* my friends valentine's just to let them know I care :)

Everyday for us is Valentine's Day...I'm serious.
April and May are our big months (anniversary, then both birthdays), so what goes on in February isn't a biggie. :p We have our own special day in October, because things are just kind of...dull...then.

I figure that i'll work till 11, and then go home and get royally shithoused while my roommates try to have their V Day celebrations at home. :D

I'm actually kinda down this V Day. Usually i can count on a CARE package from mom on V Day, filled with candy and cookies and lots of other crap i REALLY don't need. THis year she was on the road in Columbus and wasn't able to send it :( She sent a check instead :P

My sorority had a Valentine's Day Curse... every couple broke up around V-Day. I think it was in our bylaws :p

One year, I thought I'd escaped the curse, only to be dumped 3 days after V-Day. :(

The next year was my first V-Day with my now-husband. I was dreading the day, convinced he was going to dump me even though he'd given no sign of wanting to do so... well, far from breaking up, less than a month later we were engaged. :D

Am I the only person curious how Moon did breaking up w/her boyfriend? How did it go???

Sorry if I sound pathetic- it's 2:21 and my boyfriend hasn't even called me today. I have to live vicariously through you guys, single or not.

valkyrie 02-14-2003 04:26 PM

I like Valentine's Day. It's cute.

Even if I were single, I'd probably do something fun. There's usually a production of the Vagina Monologues going on somewhere. It's a great day for everyone, single or not, to think about what we can do to prevent violence against women. :)

I totally concer. I'm not impressed if a guy remembers Valentines Day and sends me roses. That is so unoriginal. Send me my favorite flower on some random Tuesday or something. That proves that you don't need society to pressure you into showing how you truly feel about me.

A bunch of girls and I are starting our V-Day bitterness early. We're heading to the bar as soon as class is done (at 2 for most of us) and we're just going to have a good time with the girls tonight - after the bar, we're going to a sister's apartment where everyone is just going to party hardcore. I thought that I wouldn't be so bitter, but I got downstairs and we had three flower deliveries in 10 minutes. It's hard not to be a little jaded sometimes. :)

Rio_Kohitsuji 02-14-2003 06:01 PM

Ick..I hate V-day..no matter what...something always happens to that it will suck.

Case in point:
Last year, my bf lost is scholarship and had to withdraw from school right before V-Day, thereby, throwing our plans out the window.
This year, yes, same bf, we had everything planned for our nice generic v-day time together. This morning, I get a call saying the courthouse screwed up therefore, he has to go to court to get everything straightened out. So, once again, me and ole TKE209 haved missed out on both of our V-Days. *growls*

Gawd, no matter WHAT something friggin' screws up this d*mn day!!!!

So my friend, is a bitch. When she doesn't have her way, she's gets pissy. Funny-- she's graduating with a teaching degree in elementary ed this semester. Anyways, our Phi Mu State day is tomorrow, at CMU-- 3 or so hour drive. I'm gettin up at the buttcrack of dawn. For our V-Day outing, we were gona go out to dinner, and then go watch a movie since I was just gona go home after. I'm fine with goin home. So my friend is all pissy cuz she doesn't have any elses number, all she cares about is goin to the bar or spending money that she doesn't have (which she complains about). She yells at me and tells me that I ruined her V-day. Blah... so what. Then she leaves me a message on my IM saying that
Be happy that you made someone else's day just as miserable as yours. Thanks so much.

Funny... I've been in a great mood all day long!

Yep what woudl u do without friends? Oh yeah, the girls are still goin out-- without her!
