The local tradition is strong but it's not all that old--less than 30 years. Sewanee also has 2 rather exclusive social clubs, Pink Ribbon Society and White Ribbon Society, that a woman can be a member of and still belong to a Greek-letter sorority.
The reason that the local tradition is "not all that old" is because women have only been allowed to attend Sewanee for one year or so longer than the oldest local.
One of my dearest friends was in the first pledge class of the second oldest sorority there.

i do seem to remember that several years ago zta (and i am sure others) presented to the local groups at the university of the south and were told by the locals that they were not interested in going national-they were more "exclusive" being local!?!? so hooray for kappa delta for breaking ground and showing them how great npc groups are!!

Ah Hum, The University of The South is not that far from Civilization.:) While on Top Of Mont Eagle.

To the West, Nashville, MurfreesBorougho (SIC) , To the East Chattanooga, and a little farther Knoxville all have Greeks On School Campi there.

If you look into History Of Religious Affiliated Schools, the Mens Organizations are stronger until the Womens Rights were Amended to the US Constitution but reluctently as is so today.

Some of the Kansas City Local Affiliated Schools: William-Jewel, West-Minster College, Rockhusrt U., and Baldwin U that have Greek Organizations.

Have Mens Houses but no womens Houses. Buildings that is.

I was at their installation almost 2 years ago. It was wonderful!

Remember the time we were at Bahama Breeze and you brought the photo album? And you showed me pictures of you and several older women in white dresses and I'm about 99% sure they were pictures of the KD installation at Sewanee!

I'll agree that it is a "remote" campus yet very beautiful. My cousin's daughter graduated from there...brother attended until he flunked out twice, lol.

She enjoyed helping one of the fraternities. I wish that she had been able to be a Kappa Delta. I don't know if she was interested in the locals.

Congratulations to Kappy Delta!
