Yes, except for that in So-Cal you'd take the 10 to the 405 to get to VONS or Pavilions, b/c we do not have Safeway stores anymore and they are all the same company.

I don't have a problem with Nor-Cal people saying Hella, it is just curious to me that even though there is so much cross-polination between Nor-Cal and So-Cal the term still hasn't taken root in So-Cal after all these years. I don't think I've ever used the term "Hella" in a conversation despite the fact that I've been aware of its existence for 10+ years now. There are plenty of things we say down here that will never take root up there either.

I don't understand why it's such a big deal.. I mean Gwen Stafani thought it was cool enough to make a whole song out of it...so I think all of you who think hella sounds stupid or think it's too "nor- Cal" are just "hella trippin"
wow... all of this talk has made me Hella hungry I think I need to take the freeway (but just 101, not THE 101 like you So-Cal people would say) to Safeway and buy some groceries :D

I am a very proud Nor-Cal girl and I say hella and I don't care! My sisters from So Cal would always make so much fun of us gals who said hella and wouldn't say "the" in front of freeways! They would always say, "You don't say I'm going to house, so why do you say I'm taking 101 instead of the 101?" We've had many funny arguements about stuff like this! One of my pledge sister's favorite sayings was "Hella cool, hella tight... helicopter" to make fun of us when we would say the dreaded "Hella". Now "hecka" is a different story... :D

Wow, there's so much Nor-Cal pride in the house!

And to Laura-Dev: "Hella" is a timeless expression. ;)

XOXO,
Annie.

Ok... a little of the subject.... but on the theme of slang from "back in the day" did anyone used to say "psych" or "not" ?... or going back a bit further "radical" a la teenage mutant ninja turtles ?
also kinda along the same lines has anyone ever noticed that certain little sayings or ways of saying certain words get picked up by your chapter ? like in my chapter almost everyone says "not acceptable" and a lot of us use the "he's a monet" line form Clueless... There's a few other things too... but you get the point...
