We have study tables, too. However, we have it set up that you do not have to do them if you have above a set GPA (for us, Pi...3.14). If you have above Pi you are supposed to proctor an hour for the study tables. If you have below Pi then you assigned a certain number of hours to study. Like if you have a 3.1 you do an hour, etc.
I feel this system works out very well. I really don't mind studying in our dining room. People are respectful and keep that area quiet. I know for me sometimes I need a place to go where it's quiet, and now I don't have to walk 10 minutes away to sit in the library. |
One of the first things we tell the girls at info night is that they will be expected to go to study table once a week. The girls don't mind and we always have the highest cumulative GPA on campus.

We also have mandatory study hours. The number required is based on last semesters gpa. I believe if you have a 3.5 or above you don’t have to do any. They are also broken down into two categories: monitored and unmonitored. The lower your gpa the more monitored you must do whereas unmonitored are completely up to you. We have incentives for gpa’s as well, such as if you get above a 3.0 you receive a pearl dangle for your badge. 3 semesters of 4.0s in a row and you get a tri-sigma jeweled ring. There is also a study bug of the week for the sister that does the most extra amount of study hours. There is a special set of letters they get for the week. By giving fun incentives it motivates some members to do the dreaded study hours. Our chapter also has disciplinary action if they are missed more than 2 times in a semester. I am not sure if that is a ntl thing or a local chapter thing.

When I was in school we had study buddies. We selected someone with the same time committments or schedules to study with and verified each others study hours. We signed off on our sisters sheet that she studdied, and turned it in to the academic chair. The study buddies were basicly on the honor system. But it worked out pretty well.
