It is kind of funny, that we/you are making fun of people who are doing something with Greek Letters!

Did not All of us do that or as I should say your Founders did!

I used Greek Letters when I started my group/local.

Maybe none of you had to offer what they felt like they wanted to become, just as I did. Ergo, do something different!

Did each and everyone of your Organizations start out with the purity of becoming a National Organization!?

If they act the fool, then they will not last long and become nothing, not even memories?:confused: :)

Hmm... On the one hand, there's nothing wrong with having fun. But on the other hand, many people can't tell the difference between "fake GLOs" and "real GLOs".

You have fraternities and sororities - national, regional, and local - that promote their members' academic achievements, do philanthropy work, have meaningful rituals, etc. Then you have groups of men or women who get together one day and declare "We are now Alpha Beta Gamma Fraternity" and do nothing but wear letters and party.

People see the ABG's going out and getting plastered every night, see no sign of community service or academic programming on ABG's part, and think partying is all that greek life is about.

On a separate note, there are plenty of people out there, including some greeks, who think that local GLOs are "fake" just because they're locals. I was a member of a local and was on the receiving end of this attitude. :( We were brand new, much smaller than the national chapters, did not participate in formal rush, and didn't have the name recognition that the nationals had... BUT we consistently exceeded all-sorority GPA and pulled off a major fundraising event on the same scale as the other sororities'. I'd say that made us a real sorority :)

I point out that every national GLO started with just one chapter!

Our football team has made up their own sorority (although anyone can join!) Its call Phi Eta Alpha Tau (kinda looks like PHAT). This is the story of PHAT...

One day after a grueling practice, our quarter back was sitting on the groud, breathing hard. One of the coaches asked if she was okay...she said yes. He said, "you don't have asthma, do you?" Jackson replied "yes I do...it's called fatasthma". Thus PHAT was born!

Side note: our football team won the championship! Their fatasthma must be doing something right! ;)

Point well taken, but I have even seen inter/national GLO chapters that just party-party-party with no sign of philantrophy, academic programming or anything of the like, so in a way, it's not just the "fake GLO" or the "real GLO" giving greeks this stereotype of partying all the time.. I would say it's a mixture of both.
