It's snowing here in Central PA. But, my school hasn't cancelled classes.

Cancelled classes? Puh-shaw! I went to school in Michigan, on the west side, so we got 'lake effect' snow from Lake Michigan. We'd have 2 feet drop overnight and just get in however we could. They did cancel classes my sophomore year, but that was because a cold front came through and it was -50 degrees outside and we couldn't walk to class without getting frost bite! I had a friend who went to Michigan Tech (way up north), and they had a square that normally took about 3-5 minutes to cross. In the winter, with snow piled up and blowing like crazy, it could take her like 25 minutes!!! That's some serious snow!!!
I also hate when people get all crazy driving because of a little snow. If people would not get so freaked out, there wouldn't be so many accidents. If you have anti-lock breaks, DON'T pump them! If you don't have anti-lock brakes, pump them SLOWLY! It's not that hard folks!!!!! Although I am sure all of these smart GCers know how to use their brakes!! ;) |
im slighty jealous!!!!!!!!!
ive NEVER ever seen SNOW!! i am in Miami and the coldest its been so far is all of 60 degrees, not even cold enough for a thick sweater...just cold enough for a lil light sweater... but of course you see all these miami people bundled up in scarfs and coats...LOL you northern people must laugh at us... lol stay warm!!! :D classes here are only cancelled for flooding or hurricanes..or heavy heavy rain |

People can't drive worth a f*ck in winter weather up here.
To and from school, yesterday, I witnessed 2-3 accidents and about 10 fender benders. I was CTFU at them until I drove/slid up a curve and almost hit the traffic light. |
NOOOOOO!!!!!!! I was teased last night by a friend in Ohio. This morning I wake up to an IM by my ex, who is Baltimore, saying that classes were cancelled b/c it was snowing. Now, on GC, I have to be tortured yet again? Ahhhhhh!!!!!!

:( I want to see snow...

Yeah it snowed here last night---just a few inches so nothing big. I think the last time classes were canceled was when the ice storm went through a few years ago and there was no power for like a week. They don't cancel classes up here very often, last week with the wind it was -26C (-15F) and all of our classes were still on. It gets so cold here that when they built the school they connected all of the buildings by tunnels so that once you are at school you don't need to go outside (it's great if you live in residence all winter you can stay indoors).

5 inches and counting here. The snow didn't start until around 8:30, so most schools opened as usual and then wound up having to close early. My office closed early, and after a painful drive home I am sitting and drinking hot chocolate :)
Why is it that some people think they can drive just as recklessly in snow as in sunny dry weather? Some idiot tailgated me halfway to work today, and on my way home I saw another idiot weaving in and out of traffic because, dammit, he was on a highway and therefore should be doing 60 despite the fact that said highway had not been plowed. |
I rememer having to ski to class a couple of days because of snow. Silber cancel classes for weather? Yeah, right!!!
Everyone should play in snow at least once. But I don't miss it THAT much. As I said before, no one had a heart attack shovelling heat out of the driveway. Adrienne (who prefers pretty, soft, white snow to that hideous, ugly clammy wet yuck pouring out of the sky right now :p ) |
WhhooHooo! Classes were canceled also today at old Rye-O, lol :) They only cancel when their is either terrorist attacks or when 90% of the professors can't make it in, heh.
Fun thing to do here: watch everyone wreck, lol. We have 2 main hills to get into the main campus, of course people like to speed so they climb the hill just to have to stop at the top due to the stop sign just to slide into the car behind them, ahh..so entertaining, lol. |
Grew up in Ohio. The rule when I was in high school was that the public schools wouldn't close unless the city busses couldn't run. That never happened. Those suckers are big.
I can't remember a single snow day. None in college either. I was amazed when we lived in Baltimore for a while -- people would almost literally panic when it started to flurry outside. Of course the city had essentially NO snow removal equipment, because it doesnt' snow much there. Have since lived in Milwaukee, Detroit and Denver. Have seen a pretty fair amount of snow over the years. I like the snow -- as long as it stays in the mountains. Which it generally does around here. |

Yeah, dont get that in this part of Texas. I grew up in snow, but now live in South Texas where kids remember the one tiem it snowed like our parents remember where they were when Kennedy got shot. I have become too acclimated to the south texas winter. The high was 49 today. I am dying. Freezing my ass off. Seriously. I think the only place in the US for me to go to not be cold is eithe r Miami or the carribbean. St. Thomas, here I come. I HATE cold weather. Get tears in your eyes walking to the damn car. Phuck that. |
