They are having a bachelorette auction Thursday, which has not been done by the other NPC groups on campus, just SAE. They are auctioning off girls in pairs, maybe for safety but I am not sure. My friends and I wanted to go and observe but we all have these inconvenient things called jobs.

Here are links to the last three issues of the NMSU greek life newsletter with articles about the expansion.

My understanding is that all the presentations went very well and that no decision has been reached.

Thank you for the update!

Please let us know when the decision is made, which judging from the last article, should be within the next week or so!

this is an interesting question
but to no avail has it been answered

Well, in the case at NMSU, the panhellenic association (5 existing NPC chapters) voted to expand. They then sent out the information to NPC and then on to the 21 NPC groups not on campus. Many of the groups sent back information expressing interest in the process. The expansion committee then reviewed the packets of information from the NPC groups which responded and decided to which three of them to invite. The same committee saw the presentations and will make the desision on who to invite.

This question comes under the NPC "authorizing authority" provision. If no NPC groups are on campus, then the campus administration is the authorizing authority. If NPC groups are on campus then the panhellenic association is the authorizing authority and must vote to expand and issue the invitations for presentations.

This question has been answered many times--if you do a search I'm sure you'll find them. Please see AZ-AlphaXi's response right below yours.

The NPC Green Book is also the authoritative resource on the NPC expansion process. Ask your chapter's Panhellenic Delegate if you can borrow hers--she should have a copy.

THe Green Book should be required reading for every NPC member! :)

Hey AAgammagirl (gotta say, I love those Gamma Phi girls at U of Toronto...they're awesome and your house is gorgeous too).....my understanding is that the NPC has to put the word out to all 26 NPCs that a campus (in this case, NMSU) is open for expansion. Then those 26 groups will decide if they want to pursue it or not. They might not wish to if they feel that there is not sufficient alumnae support in the area to support the potential collegiate chapter, or if they are already committed to expansion projects elsewhere.

But I guess what I don't get is, "What if (hypothetically) 5 groups decided that they wanted to present to NMSU?" How does it get narrowed down to the 3? I've been on this Greek Chat board for 3 solid years now, so I have a pretty good overview of the topics discussed and the "nitty gritty" of expansion is something that has not been elaborated on in any great detail? (therefore, please don't dismiss me with a "do a search")

And how did the "winner" out of the 3 get chosen? Does it come down to Presentation Skills?
I'm sure that KD and ASA were professional and well-spoken in their presentations, so it would have to be more than just that....
I imagine that there must be some kind of criteria..I just don't know what it is?

Maybe I'll get carnation to chime in on here......

CutiePie, usually the local Panhellenic Council looks over the extension packets that interested NPCs submit. They may look at a bunch of different things--philanthropy, programming, scholarships, fraternity-wide G.P.A, and the support that the inter/national headquarters would plan to provide to the colony. From there, the local Panhellenic decides which NPCs will be invited to make a presentation.

The NPCs that make presentations will go to the campus and visit with the Panhellenic and school officials. The presentation usually consists of a video or PowerPoint, and the Panhellenic will usually ask more in-depth questions about the NPC, and how they would implement their extension, recruitment, and installation plan. They want to see what the NPC has to offer the campus. After the presentations, the local Panhellenic will vote on which NPC they feel will be the best fit for the campus.

It isn't an exact science by any means. Extension methods will also vary somewhat from the above when there is a local sorority petitioning. Usually the Panhellenic will take the local's preferences into account when deciding who to extend invitations to.
