OK ... I don't get this. While Greeks are a big deal at these schools, they certainly aren't the majority of the student body. So how hard would it be for the GDIs to say, screw this, we're sick on this un-democratic politicking, and run their own candidate with a strong campaign? It would seem to me they can only run things if they're not running anything important enough for anyone else to care about.
Well it depends alot on the campus atmosphere (doesn't everything...I swear I say that line more often than anything else here on GC). At the schools I know people, Greeks are the only ones who care about it. Here at Nebraska, Two guys actually fromed a GDI party last spring, running on a platform of trying to give the same opportunities to Residence hall students that they thought greeks had. They thought it was unfair that Greeks "always" drink in their houses. Anyways, out of like 3500 votes (out of a student body of 25000) these guys only got like 250. That's when I really realized how apathetic the rest of campus can be about such issues.

I know how you feel. When we have elections for president, guys from the same fraternity always win. It's just because they all vote for their guy and the sorority that they're closest with does the same. Out of the 300-400 votes TOTAL that are tallied they always seem to pull it off with minimal campaigning.

This is on a campus of 15 thousand.
