Roxy,

No worries.... :)

The greek walkway is in the "Old Crescent" part of campus.

You know the sample gates? Well, follow the red brick walkway as if you were walking towards the union, but just after the building AFTER the student building, vere to the right. I think as if you're walking towards Maxwell hall.

In the bricks, there are little engravings, they have the Greek Letter of each organization and what year they came to IU.

Its really cool because our campus's greek system is over 150 years old!

I think Phi Delts were the first fraternity here and Thetas were the first sorority.
You also seem the name of groups that no longer exist at IU :(

Get on Stan's tail. Honestly, what does he have to do all day?

And if you're a Sigma Sigma Sigma alumna, give the IU greek office a call and inquire what's happening. It will take a lot of work, but being able to have rush in the spring this year is better then nothing at all.

I agree with everyone that we really need a new sorority. AOII was the last sorority to recolonize at IU and that was in 2000. Since then, TKE, Phi Sigs, Phi Kappa Sigma, Delta Kappa Epsilon, and possibly a few more have come to campus. Honestly, I was really upset to see that Tri-Sigma was not mentioned on the Panhel website when school started. I know just about every sorority wanted them to come. Hopefully they still can.

I know that when AOII was removed from campus in 1995, our nationals had been working the entire time to get AOII back. I think that there had to be a long period of time without AOII as to let the actives graduate. But, I also wonder how much of the delay had to do with IU's Panhel since I see that Tri-Sigma is taking a while to get here.

As for the walkway, it is in the area of Franklin Hall and Owen Hall. If you know where those benches are that has a statue of Herman B. Wells, the walkway is to the left of those benches. It is pretty interesting to see what chapters we had and the years for all of them!

thanks AOII_Luv

that was a MUCH better way of explaining it. All of those buildings look the same to me

Actually, Beta Theta Pi was the first fraternity at I.U. in 1845 and Phi Delta Theta was the next, in 1849.

Don't worry, Beta Theta Pi will be back and probably on top of that campus in 5 years or less. Strong, strong, strong alumni base with a beautiful house right on campus. They have a lot going for them, eventhough they are currently gone right now. The MOP effect will be in place after the re-org, and I guaranty this chapter will be very strong.

For a Tri Sigma, aren't you all colonizing at LSU as well? Maybe that's why IU isn't working right now. Undertaking colonization itself is difficult, let alone at two of the largest greek schools around. Just a thought.

Heather - I thought SSS and AXO were still both in the presenting stages at LSU and they hadn't picked one yet?

IU needs to

a) get on the quota/total system
or

b) add a chapter

Which is better? I am not sure, but they way they rush now is NOT working

Actually, I would argue that IU's women recruitment is working.

Yes, a lot of girls dont get bids however, most of the girls who make it through rush feel satisfied with their choices, and I would say that every house, save maybe one, EASILY reached quota last year.

Now fraternity rush is whole other story...

I know sometimes other Greek orgs can make it tough on otheres trying to colonize or recolonize. My cousins at IU said a lot of nasty things (mean) were said about AOPi when they first recolonized by other sororities, etc. Overall I believe everyone was supportive, but there are always a few bad apples.

Tri Sig is a great org and woulld be a wonderful addition to IU.

It's sad to know that people would say mean things about a group of girls who are "new" to greek life. Quite honestly, I have an idea as to where most of the bad talk came from. There was one house (sorority) that we we paired with for IU Sing. These girls totally felt like the new AOII's were trying to steal their thunder! That was honestly not the case. We were just trying to be as active as possible. The really sad part is that I have many friends in that same sorority and they still are not big fans of ours. I guess that happens. But, I can say with total confidence that AOII wants to have another chapter on campus. We voted to have Tri-Sigma come 100%!
Cross your fingers!

Edited: I heard that, so far, there about 1,600 girls coming through 19 party which starts next Saturday.

AOII_luv

I know exactly the group that you are talking about and in fact, that was the one group that did not make quota AND voted against Sigma Sigma Sigma Colonizing (or recolonizing) in the first place.

I have a lot of friends in that house too. I'm my opinion, they should take a step back and borrow AOII's "model for success" if they dont want for their chapter to fold...soon!

but enough about them...

I was at the greek walkway today and I also noticed that we have had a Phi Sigma Sigma chapter too!

Im thinking that at one point or another, we may have had all 26!

There were more sororities, but I didnt want to look like a wierdo...staring at the sidewalk you know:cool:

Where is TriSigmaTX, I am sure she would have some info on the IU situation.

Isn't SSS colonizing at SHSU this year as well? Or was that last year??

shadokat 10-29-2002 06:11 PM

bump...I'm interested in hearing about this :)

roxydiva 10-29-2002 06:39 PM

this is the only update ive heard. i ran into julie on friday night, and she is the main girl that has been in contact with our greek advisor. i hadnt spoken to her in a few weeks, but she said that she has been trying to get ahold of stan over the phone. she didnt want to set up another meeting just to have him tell us were still waiting on hearing something. but they always say hes busy or in a meeting. and he never answers his email. she was supposedly going to call him at like 9am yesterday and being like "i know he cant be busy this early, lemme talk to him!" but i havent heard from her yet, so who knows. thats all of the update i have! :)

roxydiva

ps trisigmatx doesnt know much either. she said its not necessarily a bad thing that we havent heard anything yet.

AOII_Luv 10-29-2002 06:57 PM

I hope something suddenly happens for Tri-Sigma! Some would say that it would be too hard to bring girls from other campuses to help with recruiting, but I will tell you that AOII sent some of their ladies from Nationals and some alum to do the interview process. This group really had it together! When school started in the spring, they interviewed over 400 girls in less than a week...that first Thursday back, bids were given out! It was pretty amazing!

Wishing you all the best! And to all the IU girls out there....get pumped...19 party starts on Saturday!

IowaHawkeye 10-29-2002 09:59 PM

I was looking at the IU Panhellenic webpage and some of the sorority houses down there are absolutely GORGEOUS! I especially loved Alpha Xi Delta, Kappa Delta, Delta Gamma, AOPi and Pi Phi :D

I noticed this on the DG site about recruitment:

~Potential members attend events at all 19 sorority chapters on campus: November 2 and 3, 2002.

~Invitational events at sorority chapters, culminating in invitations to membership: 12-party -- January 9 and 10, 2003; 6-party -- January 1, 2003; 3-party -- January 12, 2003; Bidnight -- January 13, 2003.

I think that gets my vote as longest rush period! I would go crazy if I had to wait until January!!!
