I have a tattoo in Chinese calligraphy on my right arm. It says "impermanence" and I got it because I've always been sort of a quasi Buddhist, and I think that it's a really neat and important concept. I figure that as long as I remember that everything is impermanent (including myself, haha) nothing EVER seems that bad, and plus it's a good reminder not to get too attached to anything because nothing is forever.

My other tattoo is a butterfly on the inside of my left ankle. Honestly, my first one is so darn symbolic, I just got that one because I thought it was cute and sexy. Actually, though, butterflies are kind of symbolic to me -- you know how when you first meet someone you're really into, you get butterflies? It's sort of a reminder that I should never settle for anything less than butterflies, all the time.

Symbolizes good luck...but also has a double meaning.
When I was in high school my grandfather got sick right before I had a scholarship interview at the college I was going to attend. I was ultra stressed out. My mom gave me a lady bug beenie baby and it's name was LUCKY. She said it was for good luck and to know that my grandfather would want me to go do the best I could.
Since my grandfather is the world to me (the only one I've known) it was a good thing to have. So now I carry a perminate reminder of luck and him on my back!

I have a pretty good sized butterfly tattoo on my mid-lower back, which I got about a year and a half ago.

For the past 6 months or so, I've been wanting to get an A-Phi related tattoo, but I haven't quite decided on what to get. I was thinking of getting a small ivy leaf on my foot, where the Dixie Chicks have theirs, but TechAPhi's husband provided some good advice against that. Ah, I am still confused. One day soon I hope to go and get my second and final tattoo. :)

The way I got my tattoo was very random. One night two friends of mine got butterfly tattoos. I was there to support them ONLY. The next night, we all went back and a third friend got a butterfly tatto also. I don't know why, but I was so excited about them getting tattoos, that I decided to get one of my own. I looked for tattoos on the internet and finally decided on the butterfly that I have now. I have ALWAYS been against tattoos and even now I sometimes regret getting my tattoo. Some days I wonder about having it surgically removed. All in all, though, I am okay with my tattoo. I was excited about it the first few months, but not so much any more. It is a very large tattoo, though. I can't measure it because it is on my lower back, but I want to say it is about 8 inches in width and 5 inches in length.

I am still considering getting something A-Phi related though. This tattoo will definitely be very small, and most likely somewhere hidden.

No, but I want one sometime in the future. Either a dolphin (my fave animal), lion (ADPi's mascot and I'm a leo), or the chinese symbol meaning sisterhood. About 5-8 of my sisters have that chinese tattoo. I would prolly have it on the small of my back or shoulder.

I have a small pink and green Rabbit jumping up my thigh with paw prints. I was going to get paws coming up my thigh like Charli Baltimore but when I went to the tatoo parlor I saw the rabbit and I got that instead. You can't really see it unless I wear something short. My sign is Cancer so I am going to get a red crab on my back this summer.

The story of my tattoo is fairly nerdy, but oh well. I had always been like, "When I lose all the weight I want, I'm going to get a tattoo and my belly button pierced." Then I went to see the Clarks, and the lead singer took his shirt off and showed his tattoo and I was drooling. I then decided I had to get a tattoo IMMEDIATELY (I mean, what if the lead singer and I hooked up and ran out of things to talk about? If I had a tattoo, we'd have SO much in common. Trust me, it made sense at the time, even though it's quite possibly the dorkiest thing I've ever said. :p ). My friend Claire was going to get her second one so I asked if I could tag along. I had a vague idea of what I wanted (some type of tribal thing in black on my lower back), but nothing was set in stone.

On to the next loser part of the story, I went to Claire's to find something for my 17 year old sister for her birthday. Lo and behold, in a display of temporary tattoos was a superfly one. So I got a pack of those to try it and see how it looked. It looked quite superfly, as I expected, but I threw away the back with the design on it. So I had to go BACK to Claire's to get more temporary tattoos since I'd tried looking for something along the same lines and couldn't find anything I liked.

So we go to get our tattoos but the place is booked solid. There I am in my little sorority letter shirt with my pack of temporary tattoos making an appointment for the next week. All the manly guys were cracking up, and I can't say I blame them. They probably figured I wasn't coming back. But I went back the next week and got it, so proved them wrong. And of course I had to get the only hot tattoo artist on the planet, so he got a nice view of my bright white rear end, but whatever.

What I ended up getting (which you can probably see at any Claire's location nationwide) was a black tribal heart in the center of my lower back (right on my spine, that hurt like a f$%^@#). On both sides of the heart, there's a butterfly. It's all symmetrical. It's pretty cool if you ask me, but I'm really glad I didn't get it anywhere on the front of my body. If I had to look at it every day, I'd be so sick of it.

It was really weird though - this guy I know was like, "OOOOHHHH do you know what your tattoo means?" Hello, I got it at Claire's, do you think I looked for something with a symbolic meaning? Anyway, he said, "You have kissing butterflies on there, that means you're a lesbian." First of all, they're not kissing since there is no butterfly-on-butterfly action going on anywhere on my body (if I'm not getting action, my tattoo sure isn't, thankyouverymuch ;) ). Second, what the hell? Has anyone else heard this? Seems to me like it's the kind of thing similar to cartilage piercing when in high school, anyone who had one in their right ear was automatically gay. It seems pretty ridiculous to me to judge people on stuff like that, but maybe I'm missing something here. :rolleyes:
