Last time my home state had a Miss America was 1986 with Susan Akin...from Meridian, MS which is where Holly is from. Lots of Meridian girls go to Alabama for school, it's only about an hour away.

Susan Akin crowned 1987 winner Kellye Cash, whose daughter Tatum will compete this December as Miss Virginia (as already listed in this thread).

I believe this is the second time a former Miss America's daughter has competed for the crown, the first being Rebecca King's daughter Diana competing as Miss Colorado for the 2012 crown.

Wow! Her sister, Madison, was Miss Texas 2018. Is Madison also a Theta?

Yes, she is!

So 19 of the 51 contestants for Miss America 2022 are sorority women! That’s 33%. I like those odds.

Pageant is scheduled for December 2021. No exact date listed yet. Not sure what network it’s going to be on, but I think last time it may have been on NBC.

There are 23 sorority women competing. https://wp.me/P20I1i-5tU

Even better! What’s that %?

45.1%

I used a calculator last night and got that too but I kept thinking, “wow, that’s a high % — that can’t be right.” I’m glad it is! All states have decided their winners so everything is set for December.

Since a few contestants have relatives that were also pageant winners, wonder if “legacy” status is going to be a talking point. Hmmm.

I'm not surprised. She is studying music education, her platform is Band Together: Music Education for All, and her talent is a drum solo.

Just as a reminder:

This year's pageant final is being held on

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 16th, 2021.

THIS IS A DIFFERENT NIGHT OF THE WEEK FROM PREVIOUS YEARS.

I have yet to read directly on the official Miss America website whether this will be a televised event on free tv. You might think since this is their 100th anniversary they'd want to let long-time fans without cable, or the funds to pay for a special tv show, view the event.

The current Miss America, Camille Schrier, will also be featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC-TV November 25th, 2021.
