UPDATE:
At noon today, Djinn got a job offer from another school. It is less pay, but not considerably, and of course he gets benefits! Yay health care!

His last day at the current job is Friday. He starts his new job Monday. He will work a few weeks and go right into a paid Christmas vacation!

Congrats to Djinn!! :D

MAJOR UPDATE GUYS:

Today was Djinn's last day--yay!

And they also fired Djinn's two best friends at the school. One had volunteered to become a contractor. The other was forced to become one. (Unsure about another person, who was out today)

This is the worst shit Djinn has ever seen.

Sorry to hear about Djinn's friends but glad everything is turning around for Djinn.

Congrats to Djinn.

Bad news about his friends, though - but I've been a layoff victim more than once, and, as I like to say, "Cats always land on their feet." Djinn's friends will hopefully find something more rewarding (and stable!) in the very near future.

As far as illegally misclassifying employees as contractors goes, if a company does so, it will come back and bite the company in the you-know-where, but the misclassified employee is in no way penalized.

Sounds like Djinn is lucky to have been released from that lamp!

Congrats on the new position.

THIS JUST IN:

The head of school was terminated by the board of directors last week. Djinn is speechless.

Sounds like the BOD made a good call.

They did, although it may be too little, too late.

And then the school closed: https://www.dcpcsb.org/blog/sustaina...ures-pcs-close

What a waste of a year.

Wow. My nephew was at a charter school that recently closed, and he now has to transition to a new school for his senior year. I'm 100% in support of school choice, but I do feel that some schools are not set up for success, from their very inception. It looks like this one closed after just one year, correct? That's just awful, for everyone involved.

Wow. Congrats on the new job, though!!

Yup, just one year. It has been said (I haven't fact checked) that it's the first public charter school in DC history that has closed after just one year.

The public charter school board has GOT to have more stringent standards. It's crazy because they are pretty good at everything else, but this school had red flags from the beginning.

Thanks! I'm pretty happy where I am. People complain about any/every job, but it was easy for me to adapt because of how terrible the last one was.
