Oooh, I can't wait to hear all about your rush! So many great houses to choose from and so many great outfits! I hope I'm not the only one who enjoys reading about the clothes as much as I enjoy reading about the rush itself. Thanks for sharing!!

Wow....you are so organized and ready for each day of RUSH. I wasn't that organized at all. My Rho Chi came to each of our rooms and we showed off our outfits to her for each day and she told us whether or not it was appropriate. When in doubt, ask your Rho CHi when you meet her. Good luck with RUSh and let us know the details after each round! You are the new feeder of our addiction to RUSH stories. Good luck!

Hey!
How did move-in go?! XOXO, Annie. |
Move in was so great. Like I told you before I did early move in and it was so easy. All of the residence hall people were still decorating and so my compensation for an easy move in is no "rah rah" greeting, but I can live with that. I didn't have to wait for an elevator; since I am on the top floor (7) that is a really really good thing. Now my parents won't refer to this as "the day from hell" as they do the other move ins. While granted no one is here....it is soooo quiet... I liked the idea of getting settled myself, finding the local radio stations, and putting up all of my pictures and puting away all of my shoes (don't ask me how many...I didn't count!). I hope that your move in goes well and that you and your roomates get along. Granted I haven't met mine yet, but I have a good feeling.
Annie already knows but in case you other gals didn't know...I have a great intrest in fashion. I also do makeup-artistry for formal and costume events. Pretty much I am the type of gal that has been reading Vogue and Allure since the age of seven. Even then I knew that pink would soften my skin tone! |
 I come from a Northern chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma on a small college campus. In fact, we are the only GLO on campus. This whole business of what to wear is foreign to me. I have been reading all these different rush threads in which pnm's are freaking out about what to wear and I think it is rediculous. Maybe it is just because my chapter is highly isolated from the rest of the greek world, but we don't put that much emphasis on dress code. We like to focus on getting to know our pnm's as people, rather than as fashion models.

While I can see where you are comming from, you have to understand that a love for clothes is just something that makes me "me". I wear skirts all of the time because I like to, not because I think it will impress others. I am what one would call creative or artsy, so an expression of color and style have always been one of my great passions. I hope that clears everything up.

Clothes
It really just depends on the school, from what I know. I go to a Southern school, and clothing's VERY important. If I had shown up to Pref night in a sundress, then I would have stuck out like a sore thumb. Just keep in mind that even though our school's different from yours, it doesn't mean that either way is right or wrong, it's just... well... different.

Michael Stars shirts stretch A TON... they should fit sizes XS through L pretty well, although they will probably be a bit too tight on anyone larger.
I have four and love them... I wear them all the time. |
Wow, I just love how you described your outfits. They sound adorable!!! I'm sure you'll look fabulous.
Good luck!!!! |

Phi Sig is the only NPC on our campus so we don't do fomal recruitment either. But most of the surrounding schools near us have formal recruitment as well. I've been at recruitment for Theta Upsilon Chapter and from what I've seen when you have a few hundred women going through recruitment and you can only invite back a limited number you need to take everything in to consideration, including dress style. Plus in formal recruitment you only have 20-45 minutes to meet these women each day and then vote on who to invite back. Distinctive clothing helps remind you of some people. After seeing formal recruitment part of me wishes we weren't the only NPC at CSUDH but the other part of me likes being able to do informal and COB continously without worries. The part that wants more formal recruitment wants it so that there's more structure since there are other sororities on campus who would then have to follow NPC recruitment rules. Carolyn |
UCLAgirl, I hope that you have a wonderful rush experience. Don't forget to wear or bring comfortable shoes during first round.

Which Dorm?
UCLAgirl, which dorm are you living in? (I am a UCLA grad!) I'm glad you are going to post about your rush experience! I am in a Latina sorority and our membership process is quite different, so I am eager to see how things are done in the UCLA Panhellenic. Best wishes to you! I hope you find the sisterhood you are looking for!

UCLA girl,
You know I wish you the best of luck and hope you'll have a wonderful time. It is so funny to me to read your thread b/c I too moved in early and already had all of my outfits picked out. Of course, I lived in Dykstra (6th floor rocked!) and move in was a nightmare with 10 floors and one elevator. Are you in DeNeve? I hear they are amazing. One of our good family friend's sons is a freshman and he is living in DeNeve. The shoes thing is super important b/c walking bruin walk to the row and back kills! Rush was my first introduction to the fact that walking across UCLA really is uphill in both directions. My best friend and I brought our rush shoes in a little bag and left it with our rho chis during the parties. Can't wait to hear how everything goes! Laura |
