It is a small Greek world...

After I began looking into becoming an Alumnae Initiate of AOII, I found out that my long-time professional mentor is an AOII!

Normally I'm right when I have a feeling about something. Right before school started I went to my eye doctor back home to see if me eyes are getting better or worse. My docotor is a woman ( I love lady doctors :D :D ) and I had a feeling she might have been a DG in college. Well, I went to her and wore a shirt I got from my girlfriend from the Anchor Splash party we went to for her sorority. As soon as my doctor saw me and saw my shirt she went hysterical......"Oh my god! I'm a DG too! I was a DG at Missouri! Is your girlfriend a DG?" I came to this conclusion based on the way she acted, the way she looks and the way she talked. It wasn't hard. I could tell right off the bat she was greek when i first met her. She's one of the hottest older ladies I've even known personally. We ended up talking about our GLOs more than my actual eyes. I thought it was neat. The funny thing was that after my examination I asked her if she had a daughter.....She smiled and said....."You PIKES havent changed since the time I went to school." I thought it was kinda funny.

I intitiated into Kappa Delta at a small college in North Carolina. I was the only one of my core group of HS friends to go greek and none of them could quite get it. I eventually transfered to UCF and because of time constraints, I didn't affiliate with the chapter here. BUT, last fall I helped them out with rush. Imagine my suprise when I opened the house door to another alumni (SP?) coming to help out. She and I took one look at each other and just started say "NO!" and "Oh my God". We had been friends in middle school and hadn't seen each other for years. It was such a wonderful suprise to run into each other at her old chapter's rush. It was one of my best Greek experiences.

Well, my mother is a yoga teacher so she got me really into the whole yoga thing, so every morning while I am still home I have been getting up to go to either a yoga or pilates class (depending upon the day.) I had always really liked the pilates teacher - she has a very pleasant demeanor and I had this gut feeling that I liked her so much for a reason. This week I wore my pi phi flip flops to class and she came up to me and said, "I noticed your shoes. I'm a pi phi too!" We did our grip and talked about our pi phi experiences - she also went to college in illinois although not the same one i go to - the Greek community in the town I grew up in isn't that strong which made it even more special!!!

Honestly, half the reason i wear my pi phi flip flops around is because I meet so many pi phis that way!

These are such GREAT stories! I told one for my aughter, I'll tell mine.

I recently reactivated into a women's group. We sing and visit nursing homes. After the tour was complete we were at a restuarant and OF COURSE talking about our kids, college sorority...

I mentioned that thePanhell Alum assoc didn't have an AXO on it's board. A woman, whom I've known for YEARS, hollers "HEY SISTER!" Cacked me up! We were both so shocked! Each of us thought we were the ONLY AXOs in town!!!

This semester, I have a Public Administration class with one of my sisters. On the first day of class the Instructor says "I'm going to pick on the Delta Zeta's today" (we had stitched letters on). We kind of start to freak out because a lot of the profs don't like greeks. Then she proceeds to tell the entire class (with a few PNM's in there) that she is a Delta Zeta from our chapter! It was great PR for us, and one of those PNM ended up going DZ!

I just remembered this story. My mother had joined a gym a few years ago. She didn't have any workout clothes so I said that she could borrow a t-shirt from my bedroom. Unbeknownst to her, she had grabbed a purple t-shirt with my letters on the back. She was in the middle of trying to figure out the equipment when girls came up to her and started to talk to her, "Oh my GAWD, you're in D PHI E! WE'RE in D PHI E!" (My mother recounted this story to me using her best valley girl voice which is pretty funny.) My mother had no idea what they were talking about. She thought that it was some kind of gym speak because this was her first time in the gym. Only after she changed clothes and saw the back of the shirt did she realize what they had meant. :p
