Uh Sphinx. Were those Alphas letting in folks with a 1.7? :confused: :eek:

Thesweetestone: Yeah, some do not graduate (for whatever reason(s)), but they are still a member of whatever organization. While, there are others who have graduated or not and still are not members. So, I'm a little :confused: as to what that has to do with GPA.

No it was not Alphas but the school this person came from did not have a grad requirment of 2.0

I can't speak for other organizations but Alpha is a legacy of men known for academic achievement. Personally, I know very few Brothers that I would describe as not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I suggest that Alpha has criteria and among the criteria is normally a GPA higher than a 2.3.

I realize that Alpha and other organizations seek individuals that are well rounded. However, what many consider average may not be acceptable for Alpha. Many organizations boast the number of their membership. I, much like senior Brothers, want to boast the TOTAL accomplishments of Brothers including GPA, civic and community services.

I was a bit perplexed.

I was made undergrad in '93 at UAB. I am active at the Alpha Phi Grad Chapter of Omega Psi Phi (Birmingham Grad). This is an issue I've always had a problem with.

Most of the prospectives for Omega coming through Grad are guys who didn't have the grades to go undergrad. To become an Omega, a candidate must meet the 4 Cardinal Principles of Manhood, Scholorship, Perserverance and Uplift.

Although obtaining your B.A. or B.S. may demonstrate Perserverance, if you didn't meet the criteria for Scholorship (2.5) as an undergrad, your just having a degree with less than the agreed upon reQUirEment (for undergrads) shouldn't pass the Scholorship reQUirEment as a Graduate.

I would like to see Omega install an additional Education stipulation (such as obtaining a Masters or PhD) for those graduating with less than a 2.5 to meet the 2nd Card.

Currently, we just use the fact of having a degree to suffice the 2nd Card.

One thing that I do like (at our Grad Chapter) is that we have a 4 year clause ( that is: you must be a Graduate for 4 calendar years before you can seek membership in Omega through our Grad Chapter). So, since you have a 4 year wait anyway before you can be eligible to be a Grad QUE, go on ahead and get that Masters. :D

Well, those who are interested in Omega but don't meet the Scholarship requirements better get it cracking 'cause you need at least an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 to even apply for most Graduate School programs.

That varies greatly between schools and programs. I know many people getting into graduate schools with less than a 3.0, in fact with less than a 2.5.

Thanks, Ladygreek. I never knew (or thought) that was possible. I know that for many of the graduate programs in NYC, a 3.0 is usually required. I guess I stand corrected. :D
