There are lots of rumors floating around William & Mary....

*That we have the 2nd highest campus suicide rate in the country (People are morbidly proud of it, and it's just not true!)

*Jackie Chan's son is a student at W&M (actually true, so I guess it's not a rumor)

*Jon Stewart is an alum (true) but is rumored to have hated his time here and won't come back as a commencement speaker or anything. (There's also some debate about whether he was a Sig Chi or a PiKA)

*A student committeed suicide in our english building and now haunts the 3rd floor, which is why no classes are held there (as an english major, I love this one...)

*Steely Dan wrote "My Old School" about W&M and how he got kicked out for smoking pot-- this one came up because there's a line in the song that says "William and Mary won't do, now" but I've never seen anything that says he ever attended!


I'm sure there are more that are slipping my mind.... this stuff is so funny!

I am pretty sure that Britney Spears actually did register at Arizona State... however, she withdrew.

We have the usual:

1. There is a huge concrete sculpture of a guy holding a book on the side of the library and he's supposed to turn a page everytime a virgin graduates (hasn't moved yet..)

2. The clocktower will turn from red to white when a virgin graduates, and lo and behold, it is still red.

I know there are more, but I can't think of them right now

Yeah...Theo from Road Rules did attend LSU. He hit on my sister and I in the Rec one day. He also used to write for our paper. All I have to say is that the collective IQ of the students at the College of Charleston musta dropped a few points when he was let in. That boy is some kinda stupid.

Yeah...we had the Britney rumor too. I'm like DeltaSigStan...she's lucky to have gotten outta high school. Her cousin Laura Lynne does attend LSU though and she's one of our Golden Girls. I guess the biggest Britney rumor we have is that she's been seen out partying at all of the college bars here. Never saw her out so I dont know if it's true or not.

Anyone who says:

"I am a really big Elvis fan and I think the real reason why we did the whole Elvis thing is because, you know, he's from Vegas."

"I love seeing all my Mexican fans from the north,"

"I get to go to lots of overseas places, like Canada".

I think the Britney rumor must be on every campus, cause it was on ours too.

Shaq's sister goes to FAMU (not my campus, but same town) and he comes to town periodicaly (this is true)

Everyone has the virgin rumor too. I forget exactly what it is for my school, but I have heard one.

One of our big things is that the sorority dorm on campus (Roberta Hall) is haunted by Roberta. There was a gas explosion there sometime in the 50's and a girl named Roberta died during it or from complications after it. Don't know for sure. Actually, some people say that the dorm is haunted by the girls that lived in it that didn't have the dorm named after them. :rolleyes: Oh well, we'll see if I believe the story after living there next year. Can't really think of anything else off the top of my head. Maybe Tom could help if he reads this (by the way Tom was Roberta the all-girls dorm you scaled?) ;) :D :p

About the Britney thing, from what I know she got her high school diploma through high school correspondence courses from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. A lot of famous people who don't attend normal high school use the UNL program. I'm not 100% for sure about this, but remember reading something about it in the Lincoln paper a year or two ago.

If Britney is coming anywhere, she's gonna come to LSU. She was "ours" first, dammit :)

I'm 99% sure that she DOES come to BR to go out. Laura Lynne lives in the same apartment complex my boyfriend does, and several of his neighbors, on several different occasions recall seeing her show up.

I don't know why Theo left LSU. Maybe because everyone hated his columns in the Reveille. Yeah, just because you were on Road Rules doesn't mean that we CARE that anyone stole your Tony Chachere's when you had a party.

Here's one good one, that's not true:
Van Morrison wrote the song "Brown Eyed Girl" about LSU. "Making love in the green grass, behind the stadium" = the Indian Mounds by Tiger Stadium. Not true though :(

Rumors about A&M
 

I thought the following were rumors, till i had to take an Alcohol Awareness class and discovered they were true

*The Dixie Chicken, a bar across from campus, has more alcohol consumed per square foot, than any building in the world, except some pub in Ireland.

*The amount of beer consumed in College Station each year is greater than the amount of water used.

*The Kroger <a supermarket> on SW Parkway in CS sells more alcohol than all the Krogers in Houston, combined.

Man, that makes me proud. Also there used to be a rumor that the kid who played Zack Morris came to A&M, but i'm pretty sure that's not true.

hehe, I almost forgot about Lafayette's "virgin rumor." Ours is that if a virgin walks past one of the statues of the Marquis de Lafayette (there are at least 3 of them on campus), he will whistle at her.

I remember reading somewhere that Donald Fagen (the lead singer of Steely Dan) went to Bard College, which has been called "the William and Mary of the North." There is a mention of "never going back to Annandale" in the song, and Bard is located in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. The song is about him getting kicked out of school for smoking pot though.

Actually, my daughter and her friends DID see her (Brittany) out. It was an off night-if that even exists in Baton Rouge!
I believe it was at Reggies??? (There is another bar that it could have been where the guys have to be 21 and up. I get the names mixed up.)

Yes, a few of the young men were drooling, but for the most part, she said the girls "acted" like they ignored her and the guys left her alone.

She said she is such a tiny thing that she wasn't noticed until someone pointed her out and then of course it spread. No one attempted to get a conversation going, but lots of people passed by her vacinity to get a closer look. She said it was funny watching the GIRLS checking her out and acting all cool, much more than the guys did!

We don't have a virgin rumor or a Britney rumor... but we had a rumor related to a particular building on campus. This building has lots of offices and labs, and graduate students frequently work there into the wee hours of the morning. The rumor is that, barring a power outage, if all the lights in this building are ever off at the same time, the world will end.
