I agree with Exquizit. It's still funny but not as funny as his first movie "Talking ish after dark".

It opened at number 4 bringing in $7.5 million. I guess that's good to say it is in limited number of theaters.

I had a chance to see it last night. After reading reviews and talking to others who had seen it, I went expecting nothing. I have never really liked Martin's style of comedy (the buffoonery, physical comedy, etc...). But, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. I actually found this one funnier than "You So Crazy". I never saw the other one, but this one was pretty funny. Although I didn't CTFU all the way through, I did laugh pretty consistently. While Martin's whole theme is "F 'em" (to the critics, media, naysayers, etc...), I do feel that he went out of his way to appease them and get back in their good graces. The whole show was inundated with all kinds of social commentary. Not saying that Martin can't be socially conscious, but I just felt that he was trying a little too hard to show that he's not the angry, crazy, dangerous black man that they've portrayed him to be. Then again, he is older, hopefully wiser, and maybe he's just grown as a man.

Girl, it was in NO WAY funnier than "You So Crazy!" That was classic!

I feel you on that. The other "stand-up" was Talking Dirty After Dark. It was more of a movie where he played a comedian. I didn't think that it was funny. I didn't crack up during the entire movie (some of the jokes were a little too crass for my taste), however, I did get my money's worth of laughs. I did notice that he was trying to be all "conscious" or "preachy," if you will. I was like, Dude, you are a comedian. Tell the jokes and move on. Even though he has tried (a little too) hard to change "that image," I am glad that he can make light of it, attack it, and find humor and change within it. Some people would have just let it consume them.

Well, I pretty much choose the same parts. The "courvoisier" part was kind of funny, too. It's a good one to catch.

But that was the same comedy routine he did when he came to atlanta months ago.
But it was funny to hear the jokes again.

I believe that, "You so crazy" was his funniest routine thus far. I'm glad that he has a new perspective on life. He seems so relaxed now.

I agree with most of you ladies. When I went to see it I was expecting another "You So Crazy" but unfortunately that was so not the case. The show was 50/50-some jokes funny, some jokes not so funny. Certain parts like the "courvosier" and others, I was dying.

I just think that Martin has grown up and has gone through a lot of ish since the last time we've seen him doing stand up, and that's showing in the material. But I do agree with Redefined, though. You're a comedian so can we get some comedy?

Overall I thought it was aight. Not his best, but okay.

Was I the only one he was making nervous at the end with the excessive walking and inability to stay still? I don't know, it was just weird to me. I wanted to ask him if he's sure he's still isn't smoking that "Ewwwwwwwww Weeeeeeeeeeeee"!

I TOTALLY agree! I was a little taken aback when he was talking about spirituality, psychology, and the philosophy of life (not really--just an exaggeration by me :p), and he just broke out into a jog and shadow boxing. :confused: I just figure that he has a lot of nervous energy built up and that's the way that he can work it off. He had better leave that "Ewwwwwwwwww Weeeeeeeeeee" alone!

Martin's Intimate Portrait on A&E
 

I don't know if any of you have seen his Intimate Portrait on A&E. It was very interesting. It came on late Monday night.
It tells you of a different side of him and what was happening to him during the Martin series and during the subsequent (sp?) movies. He talks about how his health was deteroriating and why he stopped smoking herb! You could tell he had really grown as a person. His "companion" (as they put it) is pregnant with their second child. I haven't seen the movie, but I was glad to see that side of him.

Oh, yea it showed very early clips of him doing standup and his family (bro, sis and Mom).

Well, I just saw it last night, in the comfort of my own home, and I'm actually glad I didn't go out and see it. It was good to see him back at it again, but I felt that at times he was a little distracted so the jokes were kind of sluggish in the delivery. So it hurt the performance at some parts. Other times he had me rolling!!

I hope he continues to stay on point and do his thing.

I went and saw it Monday so that there would be less folks in the audience and yall I was the ONLY soul in the theatre.


It definitely was not as funny as his old Def JAm stuff. Was it me or did it lag @ times? I was sitting there like claaaaaawd. It might have helped @ this point to have some of the colored coalition in the theater with me because I was worried I was going to fall asleep at times.

Yeah there were like 4 funny parts but that walking ( I really thought it was just me who wondered why he kept walking and running) distracted me.

His social/political commentary threw me. To me Chris Rock is like the PERFECT social/political comedian.

I did enjoy the Jesse Jackson crack w/in the MLK skit as well as the crime scene and parts of his whole bouts with the police.

I guess I am just really used to Ced's comedy now but I enjoy Martin in movies. :confused:

I am waiting for Bad Boys 2 and I believe there will be a Blue Streak 2. . . I hope he does NOT do sequels for every movie.

He said that he is making a Big Momma's House 2. I don't know about Big Momma, but I believe that I could go for a Blue Streak 2. The first one wasn't half bad. I MOST DEFINITELY will love Bad Boys 2!! The first was SOOOOOO funny!! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/lach.gif

Martin and Will have good chemistry and they made the movie happen! I can't wait for it!

I am looking forward to BB2, BS2, BMH2 but dang it not a WTWTCH2 or Black Knight2. . . only certain movies. However I cannot see how he will make a BMH's2 unless he does a different Big Mama. :confused:
